I haven’t posted in a while, glad to see the thread still rolling a long

Been a busy start to harvest, we’re just over 50% done with harvest. As of an hour ago we only have 1 more finisher to have manure pumped out. We still have quite a bit of tillage and cover crop to apply, but we have got a great start thus far.

These are the manure crews tractors, just thought you guys would appreciate extra pics of tractors

Laying out our terrace inlets with the 8345r w/RTK to make sure they are on 60ft centers so they will split planter passes

Getting some work done on our tile/terrace project

Running the cart in the 8310r

I was clearing a path between some alder stumps so I can rip them out and a branch found its way into the fan. I’ve been super careful and am about 75% done and my damn skid plate comes tomorrow.

There’s 2 ways to fix it, the right way and the easy way.

You’re supposed to unbolt the engine or take apart the entire top end of the tractor.  After some research I just drilled a hole in the floor pan right over top of it. Took me about 2 hours to do it. Just need to grab a 1” grommet cap and it should blend right in with the other knobs.

I followed a YouTube video from Tyler Koehn and it was no sweat if you’ve ever done any drivetrain work on a 4x4 before. The ball bearings were a pain but I just used some Slip 2000 EWG hold them in place. I cut a 1” hole 2.5” from the mower height knob then used a telescoping magnet to start the bolt.

Those old IH tractors are what? 40+ years old now?  I love seeing them still in use.  With all the electronics on tractors today, I have a hard time believing I'll still be using my 2019 Case 75A in 40 more years.  I just can't see today's tractors lasting that long.

I was thinking mid 70's, so I had to Google it.  I'm not familiar enough with them to tell which model(s) those are, but it looks like most of that series were made from '71-'78.  Cool machines.

Dang. Yeah the skid plate was solid recommendation in my tractor thread. Sucks you already had one ordered too. Reinforces the fact I need to get one ordered now.

Needed to fill in a couple of stump holes and clean out a ditch and culvert this morning before the remnants of Delta dump 4"-6" of rain on us. As I was carrying the last scoop of dirt I noticed the steering didn't feel right. Found a front wheel bearing down on the 580SL. Fortunately I can just slide the front bucket on the ground and steer with brakes, so i still managed to get the ditch and culvert cleaned out.

At least the manure crew knows what color tractor to run...

If my eye is right the one with factory cab is an early 1586 based on paint scheme. Even though they were made up until 81, the paint dates it to 76-78. After that the cabs were painted red; 79 had the Red-Power decals.

The other 2 appear to be 66 series so 71-78. Those 2 could be 86 series but it was not common to have open-station 86 series, especially with an aftermarket cab added on (those aren't factory 86 series cabs).

So yeah, pretty much spot on!

Hopefully having a L2501 HST, loader, grapple, bush hog, box blade and pallet forks delivered in two weeks for my 7 acres.  Only two acres of light mowing. Looking forward to getting some tree work done.  Already planning on building one of those carry all boxes/platforms for the 3pt hitch.

$24.7k

I just bought a grapple, it’s a game changer

The easy part of tree trimming used to be the trimming and hauling them off was the bitch

It’s the exact opposite now, I get to relax while the machine does the work

Wait until you have to start bucking firewood!

Let's count the ways:

- You can buck at a central location instead of where the tree falls
- No bending over; you cut standing at a comfortable height
- No bar pinching
- No rolling the log over to get to the other side
- No getting the blade into the ground, dirt, gravel etc.
- No bending over
- Far faster, easier and safer.

One downside:  Watch your toes!

Kubota L4330 made in 2005 with just under 1200 hours.  I asked if there was anything I could have done to cause and/or prevent it and the service manager said no, shit just happens sometimes.

The one negative is that I asked for the old one so I can see if I can rebuild it.  It wasn't with the tractor, so I have to call back Monday AM; the service guy knew I wanted it.

Posting this from the farming thread in GD.

We spent most of Friday night (10/16) fixing a breakdown. The outside row unit gearbox took a dump on us. After getting the broke gearbox off I noticed it caused some welds to start breaking on one of the Calmer Corn Head BT Chopper stalk rolls. I welded those spots that needed it, hopefully that will at least make it through this season. We got the new gearbox installed and put the chopping rolls back on.

Starting the removal process, you have to pull the row unit drive drive shaft that passes through all the gearboxes and slip clutches.

New paperweight

New gearbox installed, chopping rolls not on yet.

Chopping rolls look like this

I didn’t take a lot of pictures of the fix, heat of the moment type thing .

One of the crews applying a different producers manure on a field of ours is staging equipment.

As of yesterday we have 100 ac left, it’s been a little moist lately so didn’t have much getting done in terms of fieldwork.

Spent the day clearing the back yard put further (used the weed eater...too many hidden rocks) and then decided to give a stump a try. I have 5 in the back that need to come out for sure. Going to try to do all of them by winter. This is about 2 hours of digging. Going to bust out the reciprocating saw tomorrow and cut the roots I wasn’t able to pull up with the backhoe. Should be able to freak it loose and then I’ll figure out how to burn this thing.

Easy to spot a missing wire, a bolt that’s lost torque is a lot harder.  Might incorporate a guard or skid plate? I’ve never brush hogged anything that rough, probably won’t again, so might not be worth it.

Should be able to freak it loose and then I’ll figure out how to burn this thing.

For an old stump like that, bore a few holes down into it as deep as possible and pour a 50/50 mix of diesel/burnt motor oil into it. cover the top to keep out rain and let it soak in a few days or weeks, topping off if you want. Then take chainsaw and cut an X through it from the top down and burn it in place.

I’ll give that a try on one of the others. I planned on exposing some roots and burning all of the deadfall on top of the next one. This particular stump is close enough to the house I’d melt siding if the fire got too big.

Not "My tractor." It's a rental, but did a little trail maintenance over the weekend.

Mowing the lower part of property (where I shoot).

Same area before I got the trees pulled up. Honey locust trees are awful.

While doing said shooting

some firewood

Easy to spot a missing wire, a bolt that’s lost torque is a lot harder.  Might incorporate a guard or skid plate? I’ve never brush hogged anything that rough, probably won’t again, so might not be worth it.

Shredded 7 or so acres at my mom's recently purchased river property for the first time.  I'll probably use this field as a hay source since her neighbor has hay cut on his property too.

Dragged her top field of 6 acres or so with pipes and a chain to smooth it out for planting a cover crop of wheat, oats, rye, clover, turnips, and radishes.

Planted that same cover crop in 27 acres using a no till drill I bought on a miracle purchase for $500 and put about $3,500 more into.

Your mom's river property looks beautiful.  Your drag job for the cover crop look like it turned out well.  Most importantly, you get more crops in a crooked row!!

Can you expand on this a bit?  Maybe a pic of your dragging implement?  I have some fields that are pretty rough, but I've never been sure how to address the problem.

I don't have a picture right now. It actually belongs to my mom's North neighbor. it is two pipes around three inches in diameter or maybe four and about 10 ft wide. they have a chain about one foot long on each side to hold them together. then there is a very large chain that is probably three quarters of an inch that stretches from one side of the back pipe to the other but it is longer so it runs in an arc. The field has to be disced first so it is loose. Your other options would be to drag a land plane over the field or else use a tandem disc set very shallow.

You can just see the chain in the attached picture.Attachment Attached File

Sounds like it's basically just a chain harrow?
