I'm going to diy a concrete counter weight this spring but hopefully I can dig my way to my box blade and get it on for some weight out back to help with some pushing weight.

I may be overly cautious on such things, but I'd be careful about how you push snow with a setup like that. Try to keep it as straight forward as possible, because with the blade so far out away from the tractor, it has a lot of leverage to twist the loader arms.

I totally agree the nice thing is we're out in the prarie so no crazy rocky ground just a crushed base drive way and some drifting spots on the neighborhood road I need to worry about. I should be able to just go nice and slow and push with the blade angled for the most part then push up any of the drifts straight on around where the kids park the vehicles

That's what I was thinking as well.

ETA: sounds like gman is aware of the potential, so hopefully with a little caution, all is well.

I have plans to make one with 3-pt attachment points poured into the concrete for my big tractor. I'm in hill country, and even with fluid filled tires on the rear it can get really dicey moving hay through the pastures on the FEL. I want the rear tires firmly planted on the ground.

It's about the time of year where I'm tired of moving snow.  We would be sol all winter without the tractor though.  Between clearing the driveway and the road I've burned more fuel this winter than the last 2 combined.

Had some tree work done.  The tree guys reseeded the disturbed ground but didn't have anything to even out the ruts and track marks from the skidsteer grapple, truck  &  chipper.  There were also ruts on the road shoulder (part of our yard) that also needed to get evened out  to avoid issues when mowing.

Could not find a good turf roller so ended up with a 24x60" agri-fab roller.   Light weight metal, but a bit over 1K lb. when water filled.  It will do til I can find a better one. Not sure if it is worth it to rebuild the frame to use real bearings and a longer tongue considering the thin metal on the roller.

The short tongue makes turning while backing (& sharp turns) a real pain.

Plowed under the veggie garden and my nephews deer plot.

Picked up the bucket with the grapple and took the whole mess to the other end of the property to build a new road on the property line.

And made good progress.  Another .2 miles of road roughed in.  I also found a spring on the property I didn't know about.   In other news, I almost got the tractor stuck in a spring...

Not a great pic, but I found a ditch. Had my mulching head on . Its dang near impossible to use it as leverage to back/push yourself out. Also had a tree between the right track and bumper. Had to winch it out.... Right track has nothing but air under it, had all the weight of the machine on left track (Soft ground and it just spun) and the mulcher head.

Thank you. We've had it on the farm for probably 60 years or so. It's no ball of fire, but it beats walking the mini 3/4 of a mile to dig a trench.

Wrapped a decent size tree, 12000 pound winch with block and pulley and pulled it out. I don't have my winch hard mounted as I don't have a protective cage for it. So it is on a 2 inch receiver hitch, then wired to battery.

Pic with it mounted while stuck. Wiring has been upgraded from juryrigged jumper cables...

Spent the morning moving stuff around the yard. We ran power to the wife's "She-shed" last week. We passed the rough-in inspection today, so I moved all the metal grates off of the trench and backfilled it:

After that, I unloaded my new tool box and some plywood and pegboard from my truck and moved it into the shop:

Harbor Freight had their April sale on tool boxes, so I scored one for my reloading gear:

I hated to do it, but I had two huge walnuts pushed out of my side yard where I intend to build a shop.  I would guess around 2' and 3' diameters.  Over the last two (partial) Saturdays I have almost all the small limbs burned and the bigger limbs stacked to be cut down for firewood.  Using the tractor to move and pile the "poles".

I’m stuck in MD for a few more years until I retire. We have fairly small black bears here so this is more than sufficient. Here’s some pictures installed… 4x4’s are about 2’ in the ground and I poured what was left from the sidewalk I formed out a few pages back into the base. Went with the wire to keep coons out. 2x6’s for the bears. So far zero critter issues. It’s been the best couple hundred dollar investment in a while. The driveway is 700’ of gravel and dragging a can back and forth sucks.

No critters, no fence & no one interested in using it for hay.  The land is 12 miles from our house, the wife's 20 acre inherited portion of what was a family farm.  I mow so it doesn't end up covered in poison ivy, briars & sweetgum trees.  Fields make up a bit less than half the area, the rest is trees & a small pond.

Ha, I feel like you've had to explain that to someone before. Maybe it was someone else.

I just remember someone saying it would be easier to have cattle to graze a field down than to mow it, and others explaining why no, it's not.

I agree.

I have cattle, definitely not easier. But the cattle produce something of value so the additional effort isn't wasted.

Cattle really need to be checked on daily so in his case, being 12 miles away, and only having about 10 acres of grass, the benefit doesn't justify the time & expenses.

The cattle I have are at my house (er, my house is in the middle of the pasture), and it's still hard to justify the work. Finishing beef steers I will make a few hundred dollars per head this year but that's because live cattle prices are up finally. I feed the steers twice a day, I have to get up 30 minutes early so I can put on barn clothes and go feed, then come back to the house and change for work. Evening chores are a little longer bc I feed the steers and go out in the pasture to check the cows. I rotationally graze and the cows on pasture get moved every 3-4 days. It takes an extra 20 minutes to move them. Checking the cows daily has kept minor health issues from ballooning into big problems. And that doesn't count the time for making improvements, fixing things, and special stuff like working the cattle (vaccines etc). It all adds up, it's really not profitable until you get into the 40+ head range. And 10 acres of grass will probably only support 7ish cow/calf pairs sustainably in his climate, maybe less. Definitely fewer if he retains steers to background and/or finish them.

Went over some of the fields I bush hogged a couple weeks back with the 3038e using the Z930M we picked up the end of last year.  The wife wants to convert the portion of the acreage near the road to "park like" trim & the zero turn was to be "her" machine.  So far she is still gun shy.

Looking away from the road.  The area just mowed is where we get the heaviest grass growth.  It didn't phase the Z930M.  Was cutting at 3.5" to see if the mower would bogg down.  It didn't.  Raised it to 4.5" for the rest of the mow.

It’s Hay season ‘23.

First load out.

12 acres in this field. Laid down another 23 in another field.  Have about 22 more acres to lay down.

Planted another 13 acres in a new field. Going to prep another new field of another ~12-15 acres. Haven’t math’d it out yet, as it also has a pond in it.  We have the potential of another ~10 acres too between the ends of one field, and the upper part of a new property.

So we potentially have 95+ acres next year to cut.  Plus if a few neighbors want us to do their fields, that’s another 20-30 acres.

Not too shabby.

Equipment:

Case Maxxium 140 pro - cutting / baling. Deere MoCo 740 & Deere 567
Deere 6410 running the Tedder
Deere 5425 raking with our rotary rake and loading.
Deere 333D unloading it with grapples.
