By "throw away" I mean costing < $10  Does such a thing even exist? I have some cheap AA battery flashlight stashed around and would really like some headlamps that use AA batteries to go with them.

Walmart has a led one for $1.00 that is actually very bright! Not sure if they are Aaa or a coin. But for a buck you can buy a few.

Homedepot has quite a few in that price range.  If HD has that, then I'm sure ebay and Amazon have a bazillion.

Harbor Freight
Has one for $2.59. If that is cheap enough!

I've used a couple of Energizer branded ones before, they work well enough and can often be found for around that on sale.  You can pick up a couple of the Black Diamond brand headlamps for a little over that; I've got several of them and a couple of Petzls also.

Came to suggest these. They are coin batteries.

But then they are really "throw away" lights unless I want to stock up on yet about battery type, which defeats the purpose of replacing the cheap AAA headlamps I already have with AAs.

I don't think those are LED. Its looks like micro filament based bulb.

I found theseon Amazon. It'll work as a stash around headlamp. Would be nice if they were half the price though.

At Walmart they sometimes have Rayovac  head lamps on sale in the battery section for much less than 10 bucks. I have also come across Energizer head lamps in the battery section there but don't remember the cost. But I am confident that it was at or less than 10 bucks each. At the 99 cent store they have headlamps but I wasn't impressed with the one I tried. They are cheap enough at Walmart that I have several around the house and vehicles.

I like the three straps and the batteries in the back. They can be had for around $10 on Amazon or eBay. Something like this.

Amazon Product
  • ?:Model of LED: 1x XM-L T6----Lumen: Max to 3000LM
  • ?:Powered by 2x 18650 (not include battery)
  • ?: Material: Aluminum-----Light Source: XM-L T6 LED

I have been working with headlamps for a long time.

ETA: This is my favorite one yet. It is small, light and plenty bright, IMO.

I just love how the title says AA battery but the description states 2x 18650s. Hurray Amazon.

I already have a Nitecore HC50 that uses 18560s

That was the first one I came across. Double-a options are available for the same price.

I started with 18 650 s also. But my employer provided batteries so I switched to Double A's. The Double A's would last three or four days.

I'd probably go for the energizer ones that are a little more. I've gotten the cheap packs of led lights from Wal-Mart in the past and they aren't very bright.
