One of my AR's and a Glock 19. Might grab a shotty also. I think a .22 would have it's value also. Suppressed Ruger MKIII.

If you had to go on foot would you carry 3 or 4 guns?

That was kind of the purpose of this thread. I would love to have my whole arsenal of 40 guns, but thats just not going to happen. While looking at all of my guns i was trying to think which would be the best all around to have with me if i needed it.

I think the AR with 22 conversion is the best choice in a rifle hands down. As much as i love the rest of my long guns i just cant see any of them being more practical than an AR.

Now the question is which AR to use.

If *I* have to go on foot, there are much bigger problems than weapon choice, like my inability to walk more than about 300 yards. Even that results in needing very high powered painkillers. So I'll stick with a Jeep full of guns and ammo.

RRA 16" Mid-length with Ciener .22lr conversion, ACOG TA31-F, and an A2 stock with cleaning kit and spare bolt.

S&W M&P 40 as well as a 9mm conversion barrel. While I don't think I'll come across a hoard of 9mm or anything it's light, possible, and I have 9mm currently so I could just grab some of it as well.

A .22 is more important in a long gun to me than anything else. I don't see this running and gunning Mad Max style stuff. I see hunkering down, hunting for yourself and family and waiting for things to pass. A 5.56/.22lr gives me the best combo as I can take a wide range of game with it and can also use it for self defense. I'd love to take a shotgun but it's weight and the weight of it's ammo pound for pound doesn't give me the same benefit as above.

I've hiked all over the Rocky Mountains carrying two or three handguns and a rifle.  Sure, I was younger then, but the difference in weight wasn't all that critical.

Of course, I'm also not going to be hauling a 90 pound pack and racing off into the wilderness.  Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Have I even mentioned which guns I chose?  Oh, alright.  Prolly my 6.5 AR (Yes, I finally finished it!) and my old .40 Daewoo.  If I'm sneaking about and E&Eing, I'll probably have my Buckmark on me somewhere, particularly if the S holds off until I can afford to can it.

Reliability is KING!  Glock 19 and AR with PMags, SpringCo action spring, Spike's T2 buffer, FailZero BCG (no lube), McFarland gas ring, SpringCo extractor spring with black insert.  The Glock and AR have spare parts in the MOE grip and inside the Glockmeister grip plug.  I also have a Ciener .22 lr conversion for the AR and some Black Dog magazines with a CMMG bolt hold open device.  Got to have a .22lr!

My Home combo is an AR with ACOG, and a G17

My truck combo is a Mossberg 590A1 and Beretta 92FS

My wifes combo is an M4 w/ EoTech and Walther PPS 9

Other than pistol mag incompatibility, I only need to stock three kinds of ammo.

Something to be said for a .357 lever action with a .357 revolver.  Can use .38 and .357 in both firearms, while still haveing enough effectiveness to defend yourself and hunt.  Both are also relaible as hell.

Bushmaster M-forgery done up with identical furniture, optics (ACOG), irons as my M4A1 here at work.  Nothing with batteries.
G-19 with .22 LR conversion kit.

I look at the .22LR as a close range round and I don't want to put it through my AR since the sights will likely need to be adjusted for the round.  No such issue with the G19 conversion since the sights go with the conversion slide.

I wear progressive lens glasses and iron sights are not working for me.  The front sight is not in focus so BUIS are of no benefit to me.  For immediate action I can "shoot through the tube" and I have a back up scope that I could put on in a few minutes.

Some people report feeding issues when putting .38 special through a .357 lever action, however, if I were to start over my firearms collection, that is the route I would go.

357 is wicked out of a long barrel. You lose rapid fire and large mag capacity, though.  Might be better for a long term situation where reloading is desirable than for short term where you could rely on stocks.

There's alot of ways to skin this cat.

Pro's and Con's all around.

Same caliber pistol as long arm-same ammo, less chance of scrounging the bullets you need.

Two firearms of "common" caliber.- Opposite of prior sentence.

If you are bugging out with a rifle and a pistol, you are way ahead of the game and should be happy with that.

If bugging in, ammo and reliable firearms is king

I love my AR's, but am currently living in Phoenix, and my chosen 'Get out of Dodge' setup is a Plainfield M1 carbine (sliding wire stock model - fits loaded w/30 round mag in an M60 barrel bag) tied to an M1941 pack and my Colt 1911 which will replace my SIG P6. This should get me back to Norther AZ safely, and allow me to carry a buttload of H2O, a necessity around here. Once home I'll change to an AR.  Why the M1 carbine? small, light, and compact - in the barrel bag you wouldn't even know I'm carrying it, even tied to the outside of the pack. I am currently working on an Mk18 SBR build that will eventually take the place of the carbine, but I may not change over, I like the M1 carbine that much. Thinking of mounting a micro Aimpoint on it somehow.

I was familiar with the Ultimak, but seems like they used to be more expensive - that's probably the best option, but I'm looking at smaller mounts as all I'm mounting is a Votex SPARC - after seeing reviews of it, it seems like the perfect mini-red dot for this application.

I've seen some mounts that mount to the rear site - but I can't remember if that was on a M1 carbine or mini-14 or M1a.
I have a Vortex Sparc and it's a great little red-dot. Good value for money...got it mounted on my dad's Saiga .223 - it loses power every once in a while - take off battery cap and put it back on and it works again. Vortex has good customer service, I just haven't gotten around to resolving the issue yet.

Aint plannin on buggin out..

But I do rely on my ole Marlin 22 bolt action with scope, Xdm 45, and rem 870. All loaded and chambered ready to go and I trust all 3 to function.

If I did have to go somewere then no way am I walking if its over a mile. Then regardless itll be the 22 rifle and xdm45 at all times. Scatter gun can stay at home if needbe

I am working on a Ar 5.56 build as soon as the funds are available and it may replace the 22 rifle..

Between Flag and Sedona actually. I can go straight out Indian School and take 87 home if things got really crazy here. I would definitely stay awaw from I-17...can't wait to shoot the .45, come to think of it, I haven't shot this carbine yet and need to make sure it's reliable. Fortunately I can go right down the street and shoot both at the indoor range at SHooter's World, another advantage of the little carbine. I just haven't had time to do it I've been working so much.

I really like the idea of a lever action gun in 357 with a capacity of 10-12 rounds and a 7 round 357 revolver. The fact you can use 38spl cuts down the price of ammo and makes it easier to find ammo. Also for Small Game such as rabbits and squirrel you can use shotshells.

I look at the local gun shows and make cash offers. I've been paying about $25 per box. Palmetto State Armory still has some in stock for even less than that I think. It's not cheap, but it's not impossible to find either.

There is something to be said for a non-semiauto choice. Reloads will be suspect and may not have enough power to extract, but why cripple yourself with a pistol calibre rifle? and how many militaries kept lever actions once boltactions became popular?

So I would still go with the 686, will shoot a couple different calibres, but I would take
a 30.06 or .308 bolt action instead. The power to reach out. Caveat: my area of operation is Colorado and 3-400 yards shots are common.
A .357 levergun carbine would have a little trouble reaching out to that range without a mortar sight.

Exactly, Id pick my straight pull K31 over any non-semi-auto platform out there, provided I had a good supply of 7.5x55 and a bandoleer full of stripper clips.
