Thank you! What’s a broken can worth to you? You could throw it away and end up with two good cans for $26.00 ($13.00 per can) which is still a smoking deal. You could probably sell it for $10 - $15 with an honest add on Craigslist and be down to $5.50 - $8.00 per for your two good cans. Or you could spend $39.95 for a new cap and end up with a cost of $22.00 per can, which most folks would think is still a heck of a deal for MFC’s. Whatever your choice, you end up in really good shape with your new cans. |

No biggie because we usually dump the whole can. Cans with good caps are used for repeated opening closing. We lube the cap threads with Mobile 1 grease and inspect the threads for deformation/damage and repair. A cap wrench proved to be a good investment for my SO particularly to open the cans in the summer when vapor pressure tends to 'lock' the caps. |

I had (6) 20L cans that I bought over the years---most from back when SG sold the actual Swiss Miliatry ones for $18, and then I got one from that Land Rover accessory guy. . .
Anyway, I had back surgery this past winter, and hoisting those cans is not what the Dr ordered. So I decided to replace mine with 10L ones. . . Checked Lexington Container---none available. The British Atlantic site gets a crap load for shipping---I wanted to buy (16) cans. . . So I found this place in Florida. Cans are made in Poland. Very nice, new mfr. . .shipping is free for orders over $75.00 Cans were about $38 dollars each, but they took off a few dollars per can as I was buying so many. . came out to about $34/can. I ordered on a Saturday, the cans came today, via FedEx. Painting them this weekend. . . they do say "not for fuel use". . . http://www.morris4x4center.com/nato-metal-jerry-can-10-liter-2-64-gallon-pm-mcan10l.html I'll post pics tomorrow or on the weekend, showing my "cheap and easy" labeling system. . . Ok, I didn't quite finish all the cans---weather did not cooperate today, but anyway: Here's what these cans look like right out of the box: These cans came with a spring pin---two I bought previously came with an "L" shaped pin with a flat end---does the same thing. . I give them a light sanding, just to help the paint adhere---it appears they are painted with just one light coat---my finish sander would easily go through to the metal if I left it too long. . . With new paint---I bought some stencils to number the cans. . . kinda of pain in the neck additional step, but helps ID them easily : Ok, and for my cheap and easy tagging for "last date filled"---I just use the "tag sale tags"----I got these at a "mom & pop" stationery store here in town, but I'm sure Office Depot/Staples has them, as well as probably a hundred places on the web. . . there are two sizes, small and large. . . even the smaller size is enough for quite some time. . . |

I ended up getting six as well. I got 2 Bellino’s from ’97-’98 and 4 Valpro’s from ’02-’04. Given that they’re used military cans I think the condition is great. The outsides may be scuffed up a bit but the inside coating on all of them is perfect. A quick rinse to get the diesel out and they are completely usable as is.

Gorrammit.... Have a bunch of OD green steel cans with leaky gaskets, bought replacement gaskets from British Atlantic and theyre all the small Wedco type. I also bought a nozzle while I was at it, it's too small.
Didn't see it mentioned in this megathread, but the squarish can opening apparently have two sizes, one large and a much smaller Wedco type.... |

Decided to pick up a few "good" fuel cans versus the cheap plastic stuff. Started looking for info on the net as to what is out there and came across this thread as well as many others. After looking around and reading a lot, I decided to give the folks at British Atlantic a try, I started out ordering one of each, 5, 10 and 20 liter cans to check them out along with a couple of spouts. All are very nice cans, Wavian brand, nice paint and coated inside. Once I got the initial batch and was happy with what I got, I ordered 3 more of the 20 L cans. I went thru EBay, decent price, free shipping and very fast shipping.

Anyone have experience with these cans? I don't remember seeing them on the site back when I ordered some regular cans. $20 for a European can sounds pretty good.
Our Military Classic NATO Jerry can is a tough container you can count on. These differ from our standard NATO Jerry can by having the original German designed cam locking lid and darker green paint. Our standard cans have an improved cam locking lid, which while more secure during military drop testing, makes them slightly harder to open. Our Military Classic NATO Jerry cans feature the original design and are easy to open. Manufactured at a modern state of the art European facility, they are produced using thick laser cut steel bodies welded together by robot plasma welders. Keeping with the original design they feature an internal breather pipe to ensure quick and splash free pouring. To provide a long service life the exterior and interior of the can receives a corrosion resistant finish topped with an epoxy powder coat paint proofed for liquid fuels. A robust cam lever locking mechanism prevents leakage and a locking pin ensures the lid cannot open accidentally. Not only good looking, but built for a lifetime of hard use, you can depend upon our NATO Jerry cans. Easily stores and transports 5.28 gallons. Sure, you can have them all. One round at a time.
Legally wrong, ethically questionable, but tactically correct. |

They were supposed to be GELG, which are made in Poland. Maybe they make cans for other manufacturers as well? My first thought was they are Wavian jerry cans. Could also be Wedco? I had just enough time to eat lunch at run them by the house without getting a chance to look them over closely. Basically I just pulled one out, saw it was in good shape, then put it back in the box with the rest. |

What are you guys using for light duty, inexpensive cans? My 2.5 gallon can for my lawn mower is leaking, and needs replaced. I'll probably replace it with a 5 gallon can. My main problem here is my cans balloon up due to the temperature in the summer, and I usually loseb then after a few years.

All are very nice cans, Wavian brand, nice paint and coated inside. Once I got the initial batch and was happy with what I got, I ordered 3 more of the 20 L cans. I went thru EBay, decent price, free shipping and very fast shipping. View Quote This has got to be the longest time from account creation to first post I've ever seen. |

Thanks for responding. Any guess on the numbers, 64 45, the cans do look a little bit old but I don't think they would be "made in 64" old, definately not "made in 45" old.
