last day of the dog handler school, let them have some fun and do water marks.  never saw him so excited or rambunctious.

My IDD Jett. He also did not care for point to points, unless it was car/motorcycle searches. I'll have to dig up some action shots after New Years.

unfortunately Streaker got killed when our truck got hit by an 80 pound IED on November 15 2011.  myself and the 3 army guys in the truck were all ok and walked away, flown out with concussions but that's all.  Streaker was laying on the floor, he was hit with the blast which threw him around causing internal trauma and knocking him out which caused his death.

here's my pups.  maddy is in the Pink collar and Laker is in the Orange and again in the Blue.  Not hunting phots but I am training them both for birds this fall.

we have been competing in the dog sport of Dock Diving.  maddy, 5, was one of the best in the country 2 years ago.  She has been on ABC, NBC, Espn and ESPN2.  you may have seen her on the Purina incredible Dog Challange.  She didn't place very well there but she made it there. Her best is 27'4" to the tail/butt Laker is just under 22'  She has been really sharp on picking up the bird skills so this fall should be fun.

Laker is competing in fetch in the photo-he has to bring the bumper down from the clips His best is 18' Maddy's is 22'

on the family farm where he lives now chasing bumpers and running around as much as he likes.  i need to find some people to go hunting with to see if he still has it in him.

Yes they are awesome bird dogs. I absolutely love them.

Dakota and Gracie. Dakota was my first and he was awesome. Sadly he passed about 5 years ago. He set the bar as far as I'm concerned. Shot more than 1500 birds over that dog.

This little guy is 8 weeks old today. Say hello to Buster

Here he is with his first meeting with our cat. He went full on point and held still for a good 10 seconds before the cat bolted. It was hilarious.

Any good books or sites for help training? I hope to make a good family pet that will hunt.

Here is my Pudelpointer; Captain.  Will be 2 this November.  We are working through some pretty serious gunshyness, and he hates the duck calls, but he's starting to make the connection.  For his first hunt, I couldn't be happier!

GWP?  Looks very similar to my Maddie who is now 17 months old.  She is in her second bird season.  Last year at 4 months old she hadn't had any hunting specific training other than I made sure she wasn't gun shy  She was good at recall and would honor other dogs points and rarely bumped a bird.  She got to run loose with the adults the entire season.  Towards the end of the season she kind of had things figured out, pointed reasonably well and would retrieve.  The main goal was to get her birdy, and damn is she ever birdy!  In the off season I got her steady on whoa, worked on quartering, and "dead bird".  This year thus far she has been doing very well, a few rough edges but nothing we can't fix.  The main issue is she really doesn't want to be steady to wing so we are working on that.  She'll be a pro next year.

I'm a big fan of the Delmar Smith method of training.  Schedules and locations have never lined up for one of the seminars, but there are books:  http://www.amazon.com/Best-Way-Train-Your-Gun/dp/0679507507

Here she is a few weeks ago practicing whoa in the front yard.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Pearl is actually an Llewellyn Setter from what we've been told.
She was found by a lady that put her pic on a local lost and found in Tyler. We were in-between fosters
for the local SPCA and went and got her from the lady. We think she was someone's hunting dog that went after something
and never stopped.  As a house/companion dog she does great, well mannered and intelligent. But she's an older gal
about 10 yrs old or more and loves her dog bed or the sofa more than anything. She can still get quite "Birdy" when out on walks.
Her energy level is quite higher than her ability level. She has arthritis in her hips and ankles to the point of pain meds when the weather changes drastically.
She loves our other dogs and really liked it when we would foster puppies. She's not afraid to teach manners to younger dogs either.
If you want one as a companion, I recommend a large, well fenced yard, chain link was no match for ours when we got her. And plenty
of exercise.

SWESR just took in a male about a month ago that was found about 10 miles north of where we're at now. We would definitely have another Setter
if the opportunity presents itself.

My Husky mix. She is still rough around the edges but has a natural hunting drive. I can not believe the nose she has and what she can sniff out. She has no problem crawling under the low thick brush and pulling out downed game. I mostly take her out after coyote and rabbits but birds are also in the mix.

Shadow, boomer, and willow.

I’ve never seen a better grouse dog than shadow (medium sized settter).  He’s out hunted anyone’s dog I’ve hunted with but has zero manners
He doesn’t miss much but when he does…he refuses to honor other points…can’t have it all I guess.

Boomer is my big boy.  Nothing to write home about.  He’s not my speed, but he’s a steady dog.  I’ll probably have him neutered if he doesn’t improve in a season.  He’d make a very good hunting preserve dog.

Willow is my pup.  She’s a distant cousin of shadow.  If she’s anything like shadow I’ll have a litter with them.
