That wasn't available when I started this pistol build early last year, or at least I didn't know about it.

@LRRPF52

Just order that exact upper for my build just in MLOK  Also on the way:
Geissele Super Charging Handle in sand
JP Bolt
PA 1-8X ACSS-GRIFFIN-MIL in Wolf Grey
Vortex cantilever mount
Waiting to for the Faxon 12" gunner to come back in stock

The upper will probably get an Energetic Armament Vox once their released

This thread cost me some money

Finally got my can out of jail yesterday.  10 months wait for a little gun muffler.

NFA needs to go away.

Ok so if a man wanted to build a SBR 6.5 G upper....    what is the barrel of choice ?

The Flaxon 12inch ?

What is typical bolt life? That's what kept me away from 6.5, 6.8, and 7.62x39 AR's. I do want a .300blackout, or 5.

I couldn’t tell you the life of a Grendel bolt as my 16” only has maybe a few hundred rounds of that but you can buy a whole new Toolcraft BCG for under $100.

I have that in mine, purchased through the group buy for $165 I think.

AA has 11" barrels ready to go.

LaRue has SUURG complete uppers meant to be sleeved over with a specific suppressor for that upper.

Precision Firearms will make any length you want, from 7" on out, with Criterion, Bartlein, Krieger.

Ballistic Advantage has Hanson 12.5".

Odin Works has 12" with tunable gas block included.

I'm already looking at another short barrel for my next pistol build.  I'm thinking shorter even.

A pistol Grendel is really an omni-role blaster, capable of HD, hunting medium game, long range (at least to 800 with solid impacts on steel that can be seen/heard), car gun.

Been shooting them by the thousands of rounds since 2009 across most configurations.

I'll let you know when I break something.  So far, nothing.

I've only broken 5.56 bolts once I went over 10k rounds in high volume, compressed schedules.

Right. I'm thinking in shtf terms. Want a strong system is all. I've heard 6.5 eats through barrels as well. I know nothing on the matter myself. All I own is 5.56 and .308. Been considering a round to bridge the gap. .308's are just too damn heavy and I'm a strong guy. Probably doing a 12.5" .308.

Wish I would have had this option when I was in the Army.

Imagine hit probability like an M24 or better, with 50% of the recoil, more compact than an M4, and suppressed, with far superior ballistics to the AK at close range.

28rd magazines too.

I was tempted buy the LaRue SURG but thought it would be pretty heavy..  I like the looks of your light weight there !  I wanted to run a Titanium can..  like the Q Trash Panda  but wanted a barrel still very accurate...   maybe my LaRue 6.5 G has spoiled me..  that thing will shoot 1/3 MOA lol

Nothing like this existed back then, but having an M4-like profile that also works as a DM/Light Sniper system sells itself all day long.

It would be great to have in the Sniping community with our own special request ammo stream already as a norm.

The LaRue SUURG I held at SHOT was very handy and lightweight.

My barrel on this is pretty heavy.  The shank is full diameter for about 4 times the length it really needs to be.

Anyone play with the ~100gr bullets? I feel like they make a lot of since under 600 yards. Just wondering between the 108 scenars, 107 TMK or 100gr ELD which I should try first

Yes, of course.

I've done load development with 107gr SMK, which is a great 100gr-class TGT bullet, low recoil, good BC, good muzzle velocity.

I've also done 100gr Nosler Ballistic Tip for a lighter hunting bullet.

108gr Scenar is the same cup, but different core weight as the 123gr Scenar, so they look the same from the outside.

Another really good TGT bullet line is the Scenar-L.

I have a bunch of 107gr SMKs, which I will probably mass-produce with 8208 XBR in the near future for the pistol and my 17.6" Lilja, and my 18" LaRue Stealth.

I also like the 95gr Lehigh Controlled Chaos.  Feels like shooting a 10/22.

There's another new lead-free option as well from G9, the 103gr Match Grade Competition Series, with .554 G1, .274 G7 BCs.

Buddy of mine just loaded some up with an initial pressure ladder of 8208XBR through his 20" Proof barrel, and he's getting ragged holes at 100yds right out of the gate.

Thin about this bullet at 2700fps or better, and you will have very fast trajectory, low recoil, and minimal wind drift.

Just got back from the range with some chrono data unsuppressed and suppressed.

Unsuppressed with the Bootleg gas system fully open, it wouldn't fully cycle 90gr TNT Federal American Eagle factory load.

Suppressed, it has plenty of gas for the 90gr TNT, enough so that I turned the gas down 3 positions.  Ejection was at 4 o'clock unsuppressed and suppressed with the final gas setting, very well-behaved, a joy to shoot.  I didn't notice any difference practically between shooting this suppressed and longer-barreled rifles, as shooter's ear suppressed was very pleasant.  I don't ever want to shoot it without the can, not that it was crazy unsuppressed. It's not bad at all unsuppressed, don't notice the difference between it and 16".

My younger kids' first shots from center-fire will be suppressed.

You might try replacing one of your buffer weights with a ten pound pressure switch spring. It cuts down on rattle and will give you just a little more cycle length. On low pressure loads just be sure to readjust the gas system for heavier loads.

Yeah, I am using the more powerful Maxim Defense short RET action spring, which is very stout.

It provides a lot of return-to-battery stroke for positive feeding of the action.  Out of the gate, it was 100% with Hornady American Gunner 123gr unsuppressed.

My main interest in the Federal 90gr TNT American Eagle load is HD and fun closer range TGT practice for new shooters.

In both of those scenarios, it will be suppressed.

For my hand loads, I'll most likely being using CFE223 under 95gr VMAX or 95gr Controlled Chaos for HD, and that powder will hit the gas port with more pressure and volume based on everything I've experienced with it over the years.

It's a 12" Faxon group buy barrel that BluntForceTrauma organized with Faxon, down to the rifling.

It has 5REE (Easy Engraving) rifling, 1/8 twist.

Some poor soul backed out of one of the barrels and I just called it when it was announced this weekend.

I'll do another pistol build on my SB Tactical pistol brace.

My kids are going to want to shoot too.

Here's the accuracy I got with the 12" first time putting it on paper.  Everything was steel previously.

The LaRue MBT-2S trigger really makes it easy to shoot consistently with.  Love it:

The ThunderBeast Ultra 5 Titanium suppressor is very pleasant at shooter's ear.  I've been around them a lot at matches and events over the years, and really like how they sound, as well as how light they are.  Mine was advertised as a 7.6 ounce can, but it's really 7.4 ounces on my scale.

I think the American Gunner loading available at Sportsmans Warehouse is probably the closest you'll find. It's priced comparable to what the old PPU/Wolf Gold was, plus you get Hornady brass out of it. It's been surprisingly accurate out of my 18" Lilja barreled upper.

Well if you can't afford to feed the Grendel maybe you need to look at something else. Hornady black box 123 gr ELDM seems to work fine and is not terrible priced but accurate enough to still brag about from time to time.

I’m thinking about hitting up PSA for their 12” pistol upper.  Not sure it’ll be a real tight long range shooter, but It should be a fun blaster and decent hunting pistol.

Disclaimer: I have no firsthand experience with the PSA 6.5G. But I read a lot of very good things about their .308 and 6.5C uppers, as in many find they shoot way better than they have any business shooting. I’m very anxious for reports of their 6.5G to start trickling in. I’m happy with the 12.5 I’ve thrown together, but if the PSA shoots as good as I think it may, I may have gone that route if I were doing it over again.

Been awhile since I shot my LaRue so I took it out today.  I had almost forgot how much fun it is to shoot this thing.

Also a couple of chrono results.

123 gr Nosler CC, 27.6 gr 8208 XBR, Tula SRM primer in Hornady case = 2468 fps

Hornady Black 123 gr ELD factory ammo = 2470 fps

We ordered a pair of PSA uppers at work for testing. 20" Gov profile barrel, 123gr Hornady Black. Scope was a Bushnell HDMR, fixed stock lower with a LaRue MBT. Shot though a Surefire suppressor.
I've stripped the other down for some accuracy enhancing work (squaring receiver face, bedding extension, crowning if necessary) and bore scoping before firing, but that's a pretty solid group for a bipod on an inexpensive upper.
