LYON welcome

Welcome to the SF

Quoted:
Prepare for the most likely first and the least likely last.

So you ask; what is the most likely event?

Quoted:
Start by thinking back over the last 20 years of your life and what emergencies you faced. Things like:

flood
loss of employment
fire
tornado
blizzard
loss of electricity
car died out on the road (happened to me tonight 15 miles out of town - 15 degrees and very windy out)
etc.

these are things that will probably happen again. take steps to deal with those problems first.

SF Current events—ongoing or happened within the last 6 months to SF members:
1 SFer recovering from a week in the hospital
3 SF members that are recovering from job loss.
2 SF members have vehicles disabled by auto crashes over Christmas

SF History—has been posted in SF since I found the SF:
homes lost to fire posted here in SF
4 or more BOVs totaled by accident
5 now 7 or more new little SFers born
2 or more little Sfers on the way—ya’ll better tell us when these kids are delivered.
Visits to the ER due to infection, injury, and insect sting allergy
5 or more hurricanes

Do you have a plan for;
fire?
severe weather?
pregnancy?
job loss?
vehicle loss?

How should you live your life now that you are a survivalist?
Quoted:
Live like "it" will never happen, prep like "it" will.

Who’s who of the SF (please forgive me if I don’t spell all the names perfectly)
Frank Squid—posts occasionally one of the founders or the founder of SF
TomJefferson(TJ)—top moderator of SF and poster SF family.  TJ is a great source of wisdom and stories.
Paul—suburban SFing and expedition offroading.
Halffast—author of some well known fiction
Feral—homesteading or farming.
frozenny—financial survival.
Protus—apartment survivalism and outdoor skills
die-tryin(dt or DT)—poster BOV of  SF
Ops—lived SF for decades, poster SF family
1bigbunker—builds houses
Ferfal308—he’s living through a collapse in another country
biere—general knowledge
donne3—mom to a bunch of SFers
CJan_NH—generator use and the poster AR15 spare parts kit
Wolfcri—has some good welding skills
Skibane—knows something about EMP and flashlights

There are others, but I have not caught the above posters posting trash or foolishness.

Acronym translator;
SF—this survival forum
BOB—Bug Out Bag; also BHB—Bug Home Bag
BOV—Bug Out vehicle
IMHO—In My Humble Opinion
YMMV—Your Mileage May Vary

wow, lots of great people here. thank you all
i have been at the gun and prep thing for about 18 years now.
so i hope to be able to share what i have learned and what i know on here.
as well as learn from you guys.
if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.
i live on a property its about six and a half acres.
i live on one end, my counsin lives on the other.
in any emergency or event.
our primary objective is to hold the fort.
we have broke down our focus in spending money and preparing into these main areas
we call our operational directive

water
food
heat
light
medical
defence
communications
energy fuel source ( i will be glad to explain )

this is our core structure we build around for the property.
this structure has worked well over the many years.
there is alot within each core area we focus on.
but let me know what you think.
how do you guys do things.
life is short, so dont hold back on me lets hear what you think
thank you once again.

Well, I will be the first to congratulate you on putting defense in a more proper perspective. Water, Food, Shelter, and Defense are all legs on a table. Take one away and the table looses stability.

Since this is a gun board we tend to concentrate on guns since we all really love them.

I have had the gun thing well covered long before I started the rest of the preps. Now they are just one, very fun part of the whole picture.

Its great to hear you have a family member close by who you can count on. I am happy to have family close by who are on board. Its a great comfort and a big help.

yes guns very nice.
defence
we have our defence broke down like this
AMMO
SPARE PARTS  ( three complete replacement part sets for each weapon)
we also maintain two and three of same kind of some of our main use weapons
because there is no time to play gunsmith once the shtf or and emergency or event has occured. if a breakdown occures we can grap exact same weapon and be back in the game (no delay) weapons can be fixed in down time if there is any.
MAGAZINES
CLEANING EQUIPTMENT  and supplies for all of our weapons
RIFLES
HANDGUNS
SUB-MACHINE GUNS
SHOTGUNS
SNIPER SYSTEMS
this is the system we have in place it works for us.

I am sure you know this, but weapons support is only a small aspect of defense.

One thing that is even more important is training or at least practice. This is one thing that I am lacking. I hope to get into some carbine and pistol classes next year.

The rest of what I consider "defense" is knowing the terrain, range cards, understanding blind spots and vulnerabilities, and basic comprehension of tactics.
