I want to buy myself a a nice christmas gift.  I want it to be some sort of survival, prep, bob, ghb, type stuff. I have alot of stuff already and fairly equiped(bare minimum). I dont want any type of kits that i would need to put together. I want some type of quality built equipment. something to make life easier down the road. any ideas? Got plenty of pocket knives, flashlights, and ammo aleady. I am not new to the survival/prep so any ideas that are above a basic level would be appreciated.

i bought myself a Sawyer water filter, and a whole bunch of other things for Christmas this year.

The filter has always been wanted, i just never got around to getting it.  I have a fairly unlimited supply of water here.  I may never use it, but its there incase.

this is the one i have  but they have many other models too.

sorry, over the years i've never seen any turnkey  BOBs/GHBs that were not junk.

if you want something decent you kinda need to put it together from scratch to fit your needs in your AO, taking into account your skills. etc.

+1 on a quality water filter..though if it's for a BOB, i'd suggest a more travel friendly one than the sawyer. Something by MSR or Katadyn.

I was thinking more of something along the lines of a quality wetherlings hunters axe, or something of Fine quality and craftsmenship. something thats is always wanted but never would buy for yourself. Just one peice of gear thats qualty and not junk.

They're cheaper at Walmart in the toy section:

Cheap night vision goggles are JUST THAT.  Wait and spend 2-K on good NVG's.
(used, replacement tubes)
There was a previous post regarding water filters. It was on this board that I learned to build my own. I bought 2 candle type filters from http://www.pwgazette.com/gravity.htm  and made two of them. I taught my family to set them up, and it was less than $100.

Work smarter....not harder.

I owe a LOT to so many here.  I hope I live long enough to repay you all in some way.............

well for 100 bucks not many things fit ito the catagory.  I see you live in NY.  do you own a pair of Carhartt Bibs? that is something that i wouldnt have bought for myself. i got them as a gift 10 years ago. WOW do they make a difference when working outside or just shoveling snow or riding an atv.

pac boots are another thing

do you have a M-9 bayonet for your AR?  you can get a Lan-Cay for about 95 bucks.  its a neat thing that i will never use, but it was a treat for myself this year.

I can't suggest anything until I know what you have.
A BOB that suits you may not fit me and vice versa.
Consider operations and maintenance. Can you sharpen your super cool knife or Stitch a hole in your tent or BOB?
What good is a plastic bladder that leaks and can't be patched?
Multi use gear. Try to find tools that do two or more tasks. Toilet paper, duct tape, gun powder come to mind.
