Posted this over in the blade forum as well.  Anyone use one of these - I like the look of the bar better but wonder if anyone here has added one of these to their favorite old Buck or Gerber?  I have an older Gerber and some other folders I would like to carry more but I have grown to like the one hand opening feature.
Any input welcome.
Thanks!

I would think these listed in the link would be more secure, or simply drill and thread a hole and shape the threaded screws to the way you like, like some Cold Steel knives have this and its ok, a little rough on the fingers but it works.

More work, but worth it I think.

Those drilled thumb studs look like the way to go.  Thats whats on my usual EDC knife - at this time a cheap S&W.

Thanks!

I have attached the universal stud, such as this one, from vendor linked by OP: http://usaknifemaker.com/folding-knife-parts-c-30/other-folding-parts/kwik-thumb-stud-tm-add-on-black-oxide.html, to various Buck folders, and some other, older folders which benefitted from doing so.  There is no doubt the bar-type is lower-profile, and gentler on pocket linings and knife pouches, but the lower profile comes with the price of not being such a sure-fire opening assist, particularly if the user's hand--or the knife--is wet and slippery.  A reasonable compromise is to file/sand a bevel or rounded surface where the barrel of the stud meets the top at a sharp right angle.  A little bit of beveling or rounding will go a long ways, so easy does it.

I could smooth the upper edges some.  I will probably carry it in the leather pouch so I'm not too worried about it being rough though.  Thanks for the input.

ETA:  I will probably do the Arfcom thing and get both types to see what I like.
