If this is inappropriate for this forum, please remove. But it sure looks like ultimate survival to me. A wounded G.I. is impaled with a Taliban live RPG round.  The medivac defies protocol and transports him. The field hospital people are supposed to put someone in his situation in a bunker, give them morphine and leave them to die. Nobody follows protocol and just does what it takes to save the soldier's life.  Pretty graphic but definitely worth viewing.  Makes me believe even further than I already do that people serving or who have served are some of our very finest citizens.

I have seen that video before, but it is still a great reminder to me about what those fellas have to face every day.  It is amazing that he survived.

Uh, what? We don't "leave someone in a bunker to die" -  EVER. Rethink this bullshit post, please. Situation dictates, but this is just stupid.

ETA: this case is a few years old (thought it sounded familiar). This is what war brings surgeons. Every once in awhile...

Sorry FisterKiev. I thought it was true deal. If that is not the protocol in a field hospital, I definitely do apologize. In the clip the doctor states that something like that is protocol. I don't know, I,m just glad that trooper is still alive.

I'd take that court martial any day of the week. I'd say a doctor's hippocratic oath supercedes the UCMJ.

This should be shown at every occasion when someone thinks a larger caliber is a sure way to kill each and every time.  80 something millimeter warhead is going to do more damage than about anything out there and yet people survive.

According to the doctor in the video, they were supposed to segregate him and treat him as 'Expectant'

There was a similar situation in Mogadishu, Somalia with TF Ranger - didn't have a happy ending though.

Thanks for sharing.

Completely Awesome set of circumstances and outcome!  I am sure it has been done a thousand times, but each of the individuals involved should be commended for going beyond expectations.

Of course you segregate him from others in case of detonation, but you don't automatically write him off, which was my point. Medics and surgeons will triage, but they will help all they can until the end. They don't generally just give up, even on tough cases.
