Wanting to get a rifle for my kids. They shoot my 700 Sendero in 7MM Remington mag with ease and love it.
Few questions

1 Is Remington crap now like I have been seeing commented lately?  My Sendero is an old one ( 10+ years) never had a problem.

2 Is Tikka really that great of a rifle?

3 I did look at the 700 SPS Tatical in 308...will i regret getting one?

4 Any other rifles that I should look at ?

Price range is $900 ish
Use will be for hunting things from coyote , deer to hogs

THANKS IN ADVANCE

How big/old are the kids (for sizing and recoil consideration) and what is their shooting experience?

They are from 13 to 18 years of age. All girls (Lord help me lol)
They are fine shooting my 7 mag, I'm guessing the weight of the rifle helps with recoil.  They have been shooting for years. At the range and at the lease. Only other rifle they have shot was my AR.
Gun safety is and always first with them so I am comfortable with them handling a bolt action or semi auto platform.

Remington's quality control has been hot and cold (mostly cold) since the Cerberus- Freedom Group take-over (although it wasn't particularly great before, either).  I have had examples where the scope mount holes were drilled off-axis (requiring nearly three turns of windage on a scope just to zero) and other assembly issues.

The 700 Varmints and Senderos in H-S Precision stocks were a very good value, and with a little trigger work and good optics perform very nicely.  You can also buy them with wood or junior-length stocks.

For gals and slight builds you can't go wrong with the Varmint profile barrels in calibers from 243 thru 308.  In a long action the 7mm (especially if you add a muzzle brake) tame that rifle to where it won't make them develop a flinch.

I'd recommend the 243, 260, and 308 for all-round use.  Not too expensive to shoot, not abusive as far as recoil, and not too bad hauling into a blind.  They might be a little on the heavy side if you do a lot of foot movement, but if just trekking from the truck, off a horse, or off a quad they're not ignorant.

Thank you for the thoughts.
This season we have been doing a lot of walk and stalking.
Of course I have to carry the Sendero so I know all about the weight lol.
That was the reason I was looking at the SPS Tatical in 308. Shorter and a bit lighter.
Again I have seen good and bad reviews on that rifle.

I like the Savage rifles.  I just bought one of these in 6.5 Creedmoor, it is an absolute tack driver with my handloads.  Light, handy and well built, the Accutrigger is awesome. The 6.5 is a pussycat even in a light rifle.    I did swap the scope for a 4-12 Leupold, but the Nikon scope is serviceable and will find a home on one of my other rifles.

Can't say enough good things about the rifle.  It certainly isn't a presentation piece, but I couldn't want more in a hunting rifle.  After I tagged out in Nebraska, my buddy left his Sendero in the case and hunted with my rifle.  He like the weight, handling and the fact it shoots lights out.

Oh yeah, $500.

1 Remington's QC is downgraded from when you bought your Sendero. Would that stop me from buying one, no. Would I be a little more hesitant to buy one online, maybe, but I like to handle a few first. Going through a rack at big box you will notice stock fitment, trigger, and tooling mark difference.

2 Yes Tikka is really that nice. I have yet to handle one that doesn't have a butter smooth tight action. Nor have I heard someone complain about accuracy.

3 Me personally, I just don't like them. No reason just don't. I'd take a Tikka everyday over the SPS tact.

4 Not really Sendero ish but if you can take a look at Savage 10T and 14/114, both nice rifles. I have always liked the Remington Mountain rifle; very handy/maneuverability balanced rifle. Lastly if you can find a pre S&W take over of Thompson Center Icon, I'd take a good long look.

I have the rem 700 SPS Tactical in .308 and it's a heavy bitch.  Put a scope on it and even more weight.

If stationary(spelling?)-sure.  If moving a lot then I'd go with a much lighter rifle.
