I have a few friends that are like minded and working on their preps.  We're all "young" in our prepping life and our gear is minimal as of now.

We'll be exchanging small Christmas gifts this year (~$20-30 in value) and I'm looking for ideas of a small "kit" to put together for each of my friends with generic prep items that can be useful in an emergency.  One was the infamous $3 Chinese flashlight, but I left it p to my wife to order due to my schedule and they never got ordered.

So guys, give me some suggestions for small prep/shtf/emergency items for Christmas.

I'm giving these... a 4 pack of the Sawyer filters came to $17.50 each... you can get a Dietz lantern for $12 to $15 ( tin plating is available on some models).... the Feuerhand was $30, but it is a small size, and looks pretty good if only used for a decoration

1/2 liter water bottle for size reference

You could make an olive oil (or veggie oil) lamps.  Youtube it for instructions.

Quick run down of items needed: candle wick, bailing wire, Mason jars ( 8 oz), veggie oil.

Three thoughts come to mind immediately:

1. Good to have for food storage and several can be had for $25: Plastic pails for food storage

2. Shipping will put this over $25, but if you get more than one, you can probably come in under $25 per.  If y'all ever get into growing your own food (the ultimate prep), this will save lots of money on peat pots (which aren't all that anyway): Soil cube

3. You could also get 1 ozt silver coins from a variety of places, but that's probably not as valuable in the long run in terms of practical use.
