The October issue of popular mechanics is named as their "self reliance issue". There's some pretty interesting stuff in there. Might want to check it out.

It even talks about buying an 870 and storing it away for the kids.

That magazine used to be loaded with do it yourself stories but now it seems to be the latest and greatest stuff to buy.
I Just got one from the early 60's because it had a story about the new "fuel cell" that will burn charcoal to dry grass.

I saw it today when I was out and about. I thought about picking it up, but decided not to.

read it, not all that impressed. They mostly talk about people who have started growing vegetables in the city, and adding alternative forms of energy, heating/cooling, and insulation to their homes.

Then, there was an article about how much energy you'd need to run a bunch of bullshit like a laptop, nintendo wii, digital camcorder, etc. for three days.

searched about 5-6 stores and can only find the Sept issue. This rinky dink town sucks some times.

I got it, it isn't all that great.

The one thing it listed to prepare with is beer. I have always thought several bottles of booze would be good for trade or morale.

But I have recently started getting ready to homebrew. Then the lightbulb turned on!

Why not keep several "batches" of supplies for batches of beer? That would be easier than storing beer like Budwiser

and it will be a hell of a lot better.
