Reminds me of the rain jackets we had in our patrol cars, they always smelled like vomit even after you let em air out sooner rather than later the smell was back

There is some kind of white powdery film in there, not sure if that is where the smell is coming from. |

I avoided the smell by using them with the rubber side out. Made it easier to pack them as well.

The GI liners were not well-made, and have always been a bone of contention. Even when brand-new, they were far from perfect. Time hasn't helped any, to say the least.
It is more than likely that what you smell is the degradation of the plastic waterproofing with which these bags are coated. Things being what they are, there is no real cure for this, other than throwing the bags away. Personally, I use cut-down Contractor Bags for pack liners, and various numbers of quart and gallon sized freezer-grade baggies for the rest. |

I use pack nylon drybags.....only downside is I can't find any in subdued colors. Picked up some smaller ones at WalMart that work pretty damn well.

Cheap Dry bags for boating work great for this .... do not buy the high quality ones buy sea line ect they are to thick and heavy , get the walmart variety pack ones ..

are you talking about the waterproof bags?
green canvas outside with a little string and instructions for tying them shut printed on the outside, and rubber on the inside. I LOVE the smell of mine...

i recoated one with plastidip spray. worked out really well and killed the odor, sealed the cracks and it looks better than new.

I still have a number of these ill-smelling bags, and this product would be a good solution. |

walmart or any other big store usually carries it. i scuff up the original coating with a scotch bright pad and spray several light coats. flexible, fairly durable if applied right and water proof. i use this stuff for a LOT of projects. |

paints or automotive usually.
it also comes in a paint on or "dip" forumla for rubberising tool grips and such. it's cheap holds up fairly well if done right. i have actually done the grips on a few pistols with it as well. |
