Think about what supplies, preparations and training you need to weather this, as either side. |

who is the guy getting the piss knocked out of him at the end?
ETA: until that happens here? |
|
fun times with firebombs eh? It does not look like a good time to be in greece. Anyone have any insight on how this all came about?
Guy at the end looked like a politician... |
|
Man, that sucks.
I was just there this past summer for a few weeks. |
|
Between that and the oh so civilized Brits going after their own Royals lately it does kinda make a person a little antsy.....Wait until the Irish start implementing their new austerity measures....

Those police should introduce those rioters to the concept of full auto!
|
|
Ya, those rioters definitely have the upper hand: helmets, masks, firebombs, and an opposing police force who wont shoot them.
Those cops should walk out on the job. You couldn't pay me enough money to just stand there while people throw firebombs at me. |
|
That would play out a lot differently in the States. The PD would use lethal force against mobs using Molotov cocktails, I have no doubt about it. If that was down the street from me I feel that a jury would believe that I was fearing for not only my life, but others in the area as well. Especially if I was not able to retreat because of the disruption this caused.

Needs more stick time, 37mm, tear gas, sting balls flash bangs.....etc..

If that kind of stuff starts here, what makes you think you will still have the means to self-defense legally available to you? |

The moment the drop a rioter, they'd have twice as big of a problem since it obviously was racially motivated. |

It's funny how we read about people's disgust with government and how they don't feel like they are being listened to or even openly mocked by their elected officials and yet when others take a more direct course of action everyone wants them to get shot, beat down, etc. Don't think I'm calling for violence, supporting it or anything along those lines because I'm not, but at some point you reach the boiling point and people's frustration at not being heard and a continued downward spiral is going to prompt them to express their displeasure in a disagreeable manner. I would say we are closer to that point here in the US than some would imagine- the left continues to think they're owed everything and being held down by those above them while the right fears losing the country they grew up in and is openly being mocked by the current administrations (you have sitting politicians using the term TeaBagger for example- a word with a disgusting connotation that would never have been used on television even a few years ago). We've got politicians telling us how they're going to take things from us, they're going to tax us, they know what's best for us, etc and yet they're all rich and living by a different set of rules (kind of like the communist party in Russia). The current administration seems hell bent on creating a class war and I'd say they are definitely making progress in that direction. Unless the politicians start acting in a manner representative of their voters we may well see that sort of behavior here.

They are rioting in England and Italy as well. England's reason is stupid in my opinion. A tuition hike is no reason to go looting and injuring people. But hey, history has proven that even more stupid things can cause mass hysteria. Like dogs and cats living together. Sorry, had to do it.
The thing about rioting like this, especially if it is contained to the major cities, will be the citizen that is caught off guard. People like us will be prepared and given advanced warning, we will stay away from the trouble areas. It's the people that wander into the middle of an area that will have the problem. Reginald Denny comes to mind. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time during the LA riots, and got his skull crushed in for no reason. Now if the riots spread to the suburbs, its on!!! |

All that needs to happen is China and Japan stop buying our bonds and we are screwed. Pie eaters will be on their own within a couple of months. A lot will die. Read my sig line... AC |

I don't think the commentators were saying that the mighty state should crush the lowly revolting peasants. I was surprised in the video to see rioters get within 6 feet of an officer while throwing things and not even get swung at; in most places they would have woken up in a hospital. Also, note my initial post: be ready to be on either side of this. You need fire extinguishers and barricades and armor, but you also need black clothes and a good supply of empty glass bottles. |

The difference is those are socialist leeches demanding their ridiculously high stipends continue, and the government is tryin to turn off the money tap. Pretty much what the riots here will be about, WHEN the come. It's always the leftist scum that march and throw fire and break things. The right marches and has picnics. So I say YES, FIRE ON THAT PARASITIC MARXIST MOB OF SCUM. eta - reading the rest I see several folks so focused on rote oppostion to 'Gubmint' that they apparently don't even care to find out just what those Black Block scum are up to. They're just granted righteousness because they're 'standing up to The Man'. Well take a look what they are screaming for - free handouts of other people's money. The Greek, French, Italian and Brit riots have ALL been led and agitated by marxists demanding more public welfare monies be vomited forth, while their respective governments are saying we have to spend LESS. These are teh same 'workers of the world' who staged the very same predicate protests here in CA in recent mos, over an increase in tuition fees and a reduction in payouts to unionists. |

If the police would not protect them that would be a different story but as long as they are required to do there job you will never get directly to a politician. I wonder if we ever get to the point that this will happen here. |

I've seen some of these Black Block cretins make use of their own shields at various international trade summits. They appear to be made out of a section of 55gal drum, say about a third of the circumference. They'd be ridiculously easy to make. Just bend the bottom edge out with some pliers, or affix a bead of filleted heater hose around the bottom and drill a few holes so you can zip tie it in place. Rig a good sling and arm loop / handle and be in business.
Made from steel drums, would weigh about 15#. Polyethylene drums, about 12#. The police polycarbonate ones cost about $100. The big ones weigh ~9#. The disc / gladiator type only 4# http://www.botachtactical.com/pabsleglbosh.html |

Don't get me wrong- I'm not in favor of rioting nor do I believe that these rioters are justified in their cause. What I am saying is that it's interesting to watch the attitudes on this board as well as reading international news outlets take on this. I was also pointing out that I think it's quite possible, and some would say probable, that these sorts of events will occur here- at some point tempers flare and reach a critical point. If you read some of the mainstream media, they would have the police applying the stick to Tea Party members and anyone who disagrees with their leftist philosophies (warped as I think they are). When people are destroying private property I do think the police should administer a beatdown- I would be thoroughly pissed if I lived in France and some immigrant disenfranchised youth torched my car because he didn't like the way he was being treated.
While I also disagree with the actions towards the officers, they are the agents/ public face of government at these sorts of activities. In other words, they show up, not the politicians and thus bear the brunt of the anger. Right or wrong, these sorts of actions do tend to get more attention from the politicians than a picnic too. Note- I can't download the video where I am but I have been reading the news. |
