So while I love my IC-735, the one feature it lacks that I'd really like is a narrow passband filter. The passband tuning on the 735 is great for killing one half or the other of a signal, but when I'm working digital modes calling CQ I'd really like to be able to block out the strong local signals that overload my sense (I think is the right way of describing the problem.) Without going over ~$800 what's a good radio to start looking at?

A quick google search reveals what I want is "twin passband tuning"

Ok I answered my own question. Icom IC7200 from gigaparts it is. Disregard this thread!

What you probably need is a roofing filter. Also try reducing RF Gain on your existing radio, it may help some.
Also make sure you don't use noise blanker unless it's absolutely necessary. NB will totally screw up receiver performance and you'll hear splatter from stations far away from your frequency.
I have a Twin BPT on my Icom but find it not very effective when compared to fixed and variable roofing filters on another radio.

Flex-Radio, No additional filters to buy ever

I use theTracking Notch Filters to put a notch right over the strong station or Stations

More than $800, worth it.

here's a screenshot of me clicking the green button to center him up on 1500hz, and changing my
receive bandwidth all the way down to 50hz.

When the band is crowded, with over-modulated Cubans,  this is a lifesaver.
