What are some of the cheapest routes I can do to enable my girlfriend to be able to track me while I'm hunting with no service? I've always gone out alone and didn't give a damn, but, now I'd like to start being a tad smarter. I'm still getting used to AZ mountain terrain


Could I buy a used janky iphone and have her use the "track my iphone"?

I've seen the SPOT locators, but with a $150 yearly subscription...


But, then I'm stuck with if I got severely injured, how could I give out my coords?

Yeah, you're right. I was looking at the Deloren satellite messengers. Do you know anything about them? The plans seems very reasonable.

I just got a garmin 64s, so I wouldn't need the one for maps

I have been using the spot for years, never needed it other than sending the wife a msg at night so she knew I was back in camp ok.

I go solo, so I carry it always.  No cell service normally, and I would like the search teams to find me before the crows and bears.

I'll also be upgrading to the delorme unit.  More versatile with the ability to send any text message, and receive them.   The spot is nice and small, and allows tracking.

The Spot service plan is kinda rapey, considering what you get compared to delorme.  The delorme is more expensive to buy tho.
