I found this Paull's No. 0 hot blast lantern for $3.00 today at the flea market. It dates from the mid-1930s. The lantern stands 13.50" from base to top of the tube, the bail adds another 7. It has a 7" base. It still has it's black Bakelite filler cap with gasket. Many cracked and were replaced by a metal cap.
It was made by the
Nail City Lantern & Stamping Company of Wheeling, WV with patent dates of 1890 and 1903. Paull was the holder of the patent and majority owner. The company was sold to Dietz in 1946.
It's in great functional shape with a clean tank. It's pretty heavy duty coming in at 2.5 pounds.
Some ass-bag painted it flat black but I scratched around the bottom and found that it was originally red. I scuffed it up good then used red ceramic engine paint on it.
As best as I can tell they were all painted either red, blue, emerald green, and a silver-gray.
It's old wick is serviceable but I'll replace it when I get the roll of 5/8" wick in that I ordered....I forgot I had run out of 5/8" wick.
