New Technician - AR15.COM

Took the test on Saturday and scored 32/35. Now awaiting the arrival of my antenna (ELK 2m/70cm 5 element beam) and feedline and of course my call sign.

Never would've thought I'd jump into this realm but after hanging around the SF boards-I'm in. Convinced my pop to get into it too so we can communicate should things go south.

Anyway-the VE said that if I passed the tech I could take the general test for free. I figured "what've I got to lose?" so I took it. Didn't fare quite so well so that'll be another test for another day.

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my gear so I can set this up.

Congrats! I tested last Monday and I'm still waiting for my ticket to post so I can TX. I got an HT on Saturday and the learning curve is getting really steep now.

Good choice. Got one. You'll probably want to add an omni vertical somewhere down the road.

Do keep studying. There is a lot of overlap between the two tests.

And I am a VE, also urge wannabes to study for, or at least look over a few times, the General material, too.

The General is a lotta bang for the buck, or effort, and is really worth it... the opportunities in HF, which is a different animal from VHF, will really increase your enjoyment of ham radio.

Study up for your General class as the exams are quite similar. Take the upgrade while this stuff is still in your head.
