my body.

I was fighting a bad migraine for 5 five days when I couldn't take it anymore. I had severe head and eye pain, fever, body aches, and dizziness. I finally went to the doctor. She immediately sent me to the ER. As it turns out, what I thought was just a bad migraine, was actually a severe sinus infection. Afer IVs, antibiotics, pain meds, and about 36 hours of sleep, I am starting to feel human again. I got the infection because of ignoring the cough and congestion I had been fighting for the better part of two months. I am an un-employed, un-insurred, full-time, college student. I didn't go to the doctor for the cold that I had because I didn't want to pay $100 for an office visit. Now, I am looking at a multi-thousand dollar ER bill.

Lessons learned:
-The "young and invincible" mentality doesn't fly anymore. I will not take any chances with my health. This one thing, left un-checked, had me down for the count.
-I need to take better care of my body. I am about 25 pounds overweight and my blood pressure is starting to show it. I am not even thirty yet.
-Med preps!!!! FAK just isn't going to cut it. Anti-biotics can literally be a life safer.

Isn't there a campus medical center that is covered by your tuition?

Negative. It is a satelite campus. It doesn't have all of the amenities of a full size campus.

That sux. If you are near a large city, they have free clinics.

You may have to go to the downtown shithole of Gary, but it's free.

You might very well have student medical insurance available to you.  Check with student affairs or whatever.

And lose weight.

Glad you're okay.

While insurance won't help with this bill since you did not have it, most colleges offer some cheap health insurance.

I had cheap catastrophic health insurance I got by talking to the people at the little community college I went to.

And for what you went through, catastrophic would have helped, but catastrophic is not for the little doctor visits and what not.

Sorry to hear about your issues, I got my own wake up call and even crappy health insurance knocked the bill down considerably compared to what it was going to be with no insurance.

Not to hijack the thread but I suggest everyone learn about coloidal silver. It nocks out flu and respiratory problems better than what the doc has.
They don't want you to know about it. No $ in self remedies.
I virtually NEVER  get sick. We even have been giving the animals around here the stuff with amazing results.
Shitloads of info on the net about it.

Hit the nail on the head with the "most important prep".

I went through something similar (but worse) a couple years ago.  Gotta take care of yourself.

25 pounds overweight and showing high bp and you're under 30!

That is not good, sounds like you have a condition most likely from heredity.

I'm a fat bastard always struggling to keep weight off and about 10 years older than you and my heart is perfect.  (it's mostly luck)  I eat pretty damn sensibly and I still struggle.

You should probably start being health conscious with your pre disposition.

When you get out of school and get a job with bennies do make an appointment and get a good workup.  You only got one body and one shot at life.

(I yell at myself to do better for myself too!)

Good luck and good health.

Not to say that it is not working for you but if it does work for the majority of people don't you think that some company would find a way to market it (even in a prescription drug), if not in this country than in one of the other one's?

LOL colloidal silver

If I remember correctly, the picture is the reason that the term "Blue Blood" was coined. The royal families that ate exclusively from silver plates and used silver utensils and drinking vessels, the slow introduction of silver into their system turned them blue once it built up.. Where's Papa Smurf

Silver does have some remarkable antiseptic and anti microbial uses, internal ingestion is something that is up to debate..

You could get insurance for $90-$150/month just through blue cross etc. There is probabyl a better deal for students. I hate that people don't feel its there responsibility to get this first. How many people have you seen with a $400 car payment "who can't afford insurance". You might have to get a second job delivering pizzas, but its just part of being an adult.
