Truck camping with the family. We already bring propane bottles for the stove, so it seems to be a good power source, and readily available everywhere.

I'm currently looking at this one, but would like to hear other options for a high output light is this price range.

Amazon Product
  • PerfectFlow technology provides consistent performance, even in extreme conditions and high altitudes
  • Instastart ignition for push-button, matchless lighting
  • 1500 lumens on high casts light up to 26 meters
$43.99
This would hang from the poles commonly at the campsites, or sit on a table.

Coleman lanterns are great. I have several like the one you linked. Twin mantles.

Northstar Lanterns are the cream of the crop.

Awesome to hear. I thought it was weird that Coleman dominated the Amazon search and wondered if there was something I was missing.

IMHO: I prefer the one mantle. It uses less gas.
So your bottle last longer. And I will admit two mantles
might be nice if I was doing surgery!
For me, one mantle give me enough light for around camp.
I put a reflector on the one side. Not necessarily for more light,
which it does help.
But to block light, on one side so your not blinded by it.
Well that is my 1/2 cents worth.

Northstars are hella bright.

You're offered more flexibility with a standard two mantle.. I find they offer more usable light thrown.

I like white gas myself

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I ordered the Northstar from Amazon. $45 and comes with a case. REI wanted almost double that without the case

Bright is good. I can always turn it down to conserve fuel.
