I heard a loud commotion at my neighbors house last night.  His dog pack (5 I think) were going crazy, and 3 of my 4 were missing.  I called for mine and 2 of them came home but one didn't.  I didn't think that the neighbors were home, they live a couple of hundred yards down the road, and I didn't want to go pokeing around  there place.

Well, this AM my only male (a Blue Healer) still wasn't home.  When we got back from church we drove down to their house and sure enough there he lay in their driveway, throat ripped open from the back of his neck all way down the left side.

I keep thinking that I should have gone and looked for him last night, but with the severity of the wound, I don't think we could have ever made it to the vet in time (13 miles to town).

I can't really be mad about this, I guess.  If you live in the country and let your animals have any degree of freedom, you sometimes have to deal with the realities of life and death.  As I said he was my only male. And had not been neutred.  that is probably what got the fight started. My neighbor also has 2 or 3 males that appear to still be intact. One looks like a Rottweiler mix and the others look like a cur mix and all out weighed him by probably 20 or 30 pounds.  I've only had the little guy for a year or so. He belonged to my wifes adult kids, who no longer live here. Not going to be fun telling them.

Well, I have to go dig a grave now, and get him buried.

yup, sounds like you are facing up to the fact that if you let your dogs roam, they are often injured/ killed during that roaming.

Please learn to be a responsible dog owner and keep your dogs in a confined area when you cannot supervise them.  Unless you want the Chupacabra to eat the others.
