I was just looking at HRO, and they have significant manufacturer discounts listed on a few of their radios.

$250 off TS-480SAT
$200 off TS-2000
$250 off TS-480HX

Should I read this as inventory blowout for tax purposes, general sale to spur holiday sales, or an inventory drawdown to clear their warehouses in preparation for new models?

Hmmm... It's not just Kenwood.
Icom - $100 off 7000, 7100, 7200
This isn't as big, and I can more easily see this as standard Holiday sales.

Nothing worth mentioning for Yaesu.

End of year, xmas specials, etc.

...or maybe those Chinese mobiles are finally about to start doing in volume?

Yaesu has a bunch of MIRs that expire on 31 Dec 13.

And the Kenwood instant savings are on the radios at every retailer I've looked at. Pretty sure the Icom ones are as well, but have been more interested in Kenwood.

No savings on Alinco, so I don't think it's a threat from the Yellow Terror.

The three Kenwood models you mentioned have had a $250 discount for a couple of years, so its really not a sale.

Don't try to read anything into it other than they want you to buy a radio. There's always this type of sale every year.

Keep your eyes peeled.....as there may still be a Christmas or end of year sale too with additional discounts.
