Happy with my 7.5 is an understatement!  Just finished it and once I got it dialed in... it shoots cloverleafs.

Now... if I only had friends who could take me hog hunting.  hmmmmmmm.

First pic is a 18 in Larue stealth with a AAC m4-2000 topped with a gen III d-760 with a hand select Itt pinnacle tube.  With it is a hand selected itt pvs 14 on one of Vic's helmets, and a gen III mum on another one of Victors helmets.

Second pic is a .308 Fulton upper with a AAC 7.62 can with a Leo 6.5x20 mark 4 with larue spr mount and otal 2 visable laser.  I've got a Larue qd rail riser on the 760 so I can go back and forth with the NV scope.

I usually hunt in S. Texas were you can see 7-800 yards on 4 way sandero's.  We go helmet mounted for scanning then use the 760 for long range spotting.  Once the hogs are spotted we get the wind right and begin the stalk.

Karma I'd love to hear more about the thermal set up.

Darn, I just posted some info on it in the NV forum and I said the same thing... "DIY thermal" post coming soon. I was waiting to get another one in to build up the whole system and do the post- I guess I'll take a system apart and put it back together so I can get this posted.

The short and simple is you can build a hand-held, honest-to-goodness long wave IR imager system for hunting for less than $1500 if you can find the core at a decent price and follow the wiring instructions. We have killed quite a few pigs with this old system and its the most important item I pack when we go out after the hogs.

Chop Chop.. make with the DIY instruction post.

Please...........

I have my first Hog hunt a month from today. I have a Larue OBR on order, however I proably will not have the new gun in time. So I will be using my .308 DPMS.
I will not post a pic until I have killed a Hog with it. So please consider this my place holder if all goes well.

I've since added this Midwest Industries mount to add some light to the situation.

Romanian PSL info:
- Cugir factory built
- redstararms.com target trigger
- kalinka optics high scope mount
- cheap simmons 3x9 40 scope
- 7.62x54R ammo

Went hunting with my psl and attached extra maxipads to the stock and buttplate. I was not embarrassed. The owner/guide must have thought I was a retard (and I dont blame him) until I made a heart shot on a moving target in dense, swampy, very shadowy, hardwood bottomlands on our stalk.

Owner made me the only photo on the homepage of his website www.wildboaroutfitters.com  Was my first hunt for anything ever. Am hiding the maxipads on the photo but you can kinda see them.   Russian Trophy Boar is being shoulder mounted.

Used 2 zip ties to attached maxipad to metal buttplate because it hits a bone in my shoulder and without some type of padding it can really throw a shot off.  Did not do this for recoil. Not much recoil on this compared to my M44. Real hunting rifles have pads on end.   Used the pipe insulation on stock for consistent cheek weld.  without pipe insulation, you have to try to get a consistent chin weld using your right eye.  psl is meant to shoot with left eye and you will get a consistent cheek weld and you can shoot iron sights with right eye.  am going out tomorrow to test left eye scope shooting.

Also, I velcro'd the metal pieces on sling so that they would not make as much noise and it worked. should have velcro'd the metal sling mount to stop more noise

Overall, I would not recommend the Romanian PSL to hunters or casual shooters to hunt with (especially on first hunt for anything ever).  I took because I wanted a large round for hogs.  The only 'hunting' rifle I have is a Savage 223 with accutrigger that I love.  All other rifles are milsurps.  I never thought I would go hunting ever.  Reason I bought Savage 223 accutrigger is because it is a gun I took out of box and was almost on target first time I shot.  I realize that a 223 can and will kill a hog with accurate shot placement and next time I go I might take 223 but for first time I wanted round that is heavy and hard for a big bad boar.  In the end, I made a heart shot so either gun would have worked.

I am actually proud that I took something 'rigged' up like this to a game ranch with experienced hunters using $2000 hunting rifles and I walk out with the Russian Trophy Boar.   Kinda like winning the Indy 500 while driving a 1974 AMC Gremlin.

YES!  I had a buddy with one of those in high school.   Fun to drive around.  I won the Indy 500 in my VW thing.

Went to range today, removed my maxipads and shot PSL with left eye on scope (like commies are trained to with this thing).  Did ok on 400 yard range w/ steel plates.

and here I was thinking you were a bamf for using that thing.    I wouldn't willingly go close enough to a live wild hog to use a bow.  I prefer them at long distances until after they stop squealing.
