Suunto Clipper Micro Compass
This is a neat little button-sized compass that actually works! Compared to the other button-sized compass I tried previously, the Suunto is a superior bit of gear. First, it has the ability to be slipped onto a narrow pack strap, or onto the supplied Velcro wrist band. To me, that is a nice bit of utility, built in. Second, it has a glow in the dark bezel and compass markings. These actually glow bright enough, long enough to be useful. Third, the bezel rotates so you can mark a rough heading. The bezel is only marked in 10 degree increments, so precision navigation will be a bit more difficult, but what do you expect from a compass the size of a nickel?
I compared it to one of our other standard sized compasses in the house. The Suunto held the same position for North as did the larger compass, unlike the earlier button compass which was off by about 10deg west. The little Suunto will be replacing that other button compass in my PSK. It is a much better micro compass! Available at www.EDCDepot.com (in the Survival Gear menu).
