I don't know - it sounds similar to slow-scan TV, but it's different enough to make me doubt that that's what it is...

I just played it back in fldigi (convert to 8khz mono 16 bit wav, first).

I have NO idea what that is. Never seen it before. It's very wideband. It's not ALE. I'm not an SSTV guy so not sure about that.

Look at the name of the file, is that a frequency????

Sounded like a picture mode. I'm not good enough to determine specifically what though.

I cheated, and looked at the source webpage...
it is a relatively new digital mode called ISCAT
Similar to FSK441 and JT65
currently used by the WSJT8 application.

LOL yep that is what it is. This kind of fell into place with the other thread.
I think it is helpful to identify digital signals. In times of emergency there is no telling what mode someone will be using.
