I have a 516 that I am fond of...  I prefer CR123 batteries over AA (better battery life + shorter optic); I like the 7mm riser (lower 1/3 co-witness); I like the left side controls...  street price is about $440 delivered on Amazon

I got an XPS2-0 not long ago.  It was ~ $430 at Sportsman's Guide using the Buyers Club discount.  It's my first Eotech; all my rifles wore Aimpoint M2s and 3s prior to this.  It's smaller than my Aimpoints and I like the larger display and the reticle setup –– seems to be faster for close-in work.  I know I'm giving up battery life and possibly some durability, but I like it.  Will be putting it on my 6450 whenever I get around to switching it to a flattop.

If you want durability the best bang for your buck....... http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/1814.php

I'm a firm believer the eo is a smidgen faster (if you cheat on cheek weld etc) , a little better when shooting from ridiculous angles /positions.
I could even live with the battery life. But 400~500  for something plagued by reliability problems isn't something i want to deal with again.

I have the 552 (basically same thing with night vision settings.) It's OK, reasonably well built, but it eats
batteries pretty quick, and as a result you can't just leave it on like a CompM4 and have it always
ready –– that's the part of it I don't care for, the last thing I want to deal with if I need the rifle
is pressing the "on" button.

It's definitely the fastest sight I've used at ranges under about 50 yards.

The compM4 isn't in the same price range but is clearly more solidly built. The Aimpoint H1
is around the same price, and you can leave it on all the time, but the field of view
is narrower. I have all three, my personal preference is for the CompM4 over the Eotech, and think
either are better than the T1/H1 when actually shooting, but both the compM4 and T1/H1
are always on, which ended up counting for a bunch with me. YMMV.

I have a 552 and I just bought an XPS2 a couple of days ago. The 552 has been on my duty rifle for the last five years and has never failed me, I expect the XPS to do the same. I bought the XPS for $411 from the Exile Machine group buy but they have special pricing on all models (you have to email them to get the discount codes). I thought they were a site sponsor but I can't seem find the thread.

I prefer the 512 (which uses a pair of AAs) abd have 2.  Cheap, relaible, and it allows me to interchange my batteries with anything else I have.  They can be found new for $350-$400.

I started out with a 512... Now have an Aimpoint CompM4... And for good reason

Pick one up used in good condition and you'll be good as gold for around $500

What's the best EoTech for battery life?

I think the ones using CR123 batteries are smaller and newer so should have better life specs but IDK.

Would gettng one with NV compatability make more sense for resale value. Which one that uses LITHIUM batteries?
