I thought about trying it tonight when the 80m net (-> 40m -> 20m -> 80m digital ) didn't go so well.

Poked around for a few minutes, and my tuner can't tune it on my current antenna.

Anybody ever mess around there?

I don't, but I'm going to go give it a shot.  I don't know if my tuner will tune it or not.

You are limited in power, and to certain exact frequencies.  Due to the limitations, and the fact that I've never heard anyone there, well, there's a whole lot of 80m and 40m to get busy on.

I've never fooled around on 60, but a friend of mine has and likes it. If you need to meet someone on a predetermined frequency, 60M is always clear. Maybe we should try a 60m arfcom net?

Just an idea.

I am all for it..though I would need to cut an antenna for 60m. 50w erp is the max output I believe.

I used to play around on 60 when it was first opened up to us. I had the 5 "channels" programmed into memory in my old radio. Haven't been there in a while though.

Use it on a regular basis in Idaho, from here to eastern Montana and to western Oregon and Washington. Range is about 600 miles on channel 4.
Full size dipole for 60M, at about 10 feet off the ground.

What's the propagation characteristics with the low elev antenna at various times of day?

I use it, just for what he says...

I have talked into Idaho, and Montana several times.

WInd storm took down my antenna, so going to be a couple weeks till I get time to get back out and on the air, but I will be back.

In the mornings, it can reach out about 600 miles. mid afternoons, around the same, but in the early evenings, the farthest I have reached out about 1500 miles.
From Idaho, I have talked to Chicago, but only a few times. Those were rare. I can hear Florida, but have never worked anyone there.

Usually, I can talk to southern Nevada and Northern Arizona, in the evenings.

Northern California down to the central coast works as well. Western Oregon and Washington are no problem.

Considering of course, there is anyone listening.
