I read about canned DAK hams for shtf stores.  I finally tried one tonight.  A little saltier than normal ham, but overall I liked it.  The most important part of the test was that my picky kids liked it.  Cheap and with 5 years shelf life, these seem like no brainer for storing.

I've been meaning to try these.  Where did you get it?  I've heard Walmart has them certain times of the year but I've never noticed them.

Walmart, but I'm going to try Dollar Tree version next. I hear they're same product, just repackaged.

CVS PHarmacy may carry them in your area. Believe it or not, folks sell them on eBay, too. I haven't checked to see if anyone on eBay is selling cases.

Sam's club also carries them, but I don't think my local store stocks it.

Better than Spam, IMHO.

My wife and I agree, and we both like Spam.
The DAK hams are better, but we store both.

I usually find them in Walmart next to or a shelf above the Spam.

they are good, but eating them two or three days in a row and they start to lose their "appeal" if you know what I mean?

but for once in a while they are good.

I prefer tuna for multi day consumption.

still, I have about 10 cans put back for variety.

They are packed with salt...I fry thin slices of them with eggs, or cube and add to bean dishes. Even bar-b-que and eat like a burger with all the works. I keep and rotate a couple dozen cans in the stores.

I didn't like it at all. Way too salty. I guess if I was starving and had plenty of water to digest it I would be okay.

To each his own...... I'll keep just enough tuna around to make me grateful that I've got more ham.

I tried it and found it to be salty and had an off flavor almost like the old MRE Ham and Chicken loaf.

I'd never eat it on it's own,  only way to use it up is to dice it and fry it or use it in bean soup or something along those lines.

I am not restocking it.  I'd rather eat low salt spam.

DAK ham diced in Kraft mac and cheese - good stuff, but not everyday.  Kids will like it.

Fried up with diced potatoes and a little bacon grease...... MMMMMmmmm.  I've also diced them and put them over baked potatoes, even better with just a touch of ranch dressing.

BJ's sells them in packs of three or four.

I loves me some dak ham.....have several on the pantry shelf and rotate through my stock about every 2 years.

Haven't tried it straight-up as 'ham & whatever' sammies ––- too busy woofing it down as fried ham `n eggs. Nom nom nom....

I don't care for it straight, but do use it in ham fried rice or beans.

Win!!  Some other brands are hickory flavor and do better in beans.

Dak canned ham is about 4 bucks and change where I live. This is why I dig the Aldi's in the next town over. Their canned ham is on avg. $2.69 ea.
The expirations average 3 years.
The wife used to buy single lb's of Boars Head ham for the kid's lunches etc. for like $8.99 -lb. before I started shopping at the restaurant supply. (13 lb unsliced deli ham for $20-30 depending on quality.)

I threw one of the Aldi's hams on the slicer one week for the kids lunches, as well as ham, egg and cheese sammiches for breakfast on the weekend.  The kids didn't complain about the taste, (they're basically savages like I was at that age anyway)
It was best however, fried up for a couple minutes for the egg sandwiches.

I'm putting up another 24 cans this weekend.

its good stuff, couple steps up from SPAM. Lowest price I find is at Biglots.

However, I stock more SPAM then DAK because of the price difference.

If SHTF, I'll be eating omelettes of powdered eggs and DAKs.

Hmmm. Other than the powdered eggs, that sounds kinda good.
