I am looking into Archery hunting here in VA, and am interested in getting a crossbow rather than a compound bow. If anyone has any pointers for what I should be looking for, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I'm assuming you're new to archery hunting, so I would just make sure you check out what is legal for your state.  Most states have minimum draw weights, some may or may not allow expandable broadheads, and check to make sure the season dates are the same for crossbows as it is for regular bows.

Aside from that, I would just try out a few Xbows that you like, and go from there.  Make sure the stock fits you and you are comfortable with the draw weight.

Don't forget to post pics when you get one.
