Is it safe to add grass clippings in compost piles from lawns that have been treated to control weeds?  The compost is intended for the veggie garden.

it is my understanding that if you compost the material for a full year, just about all the available products out there will be gone from the material. The key is time and heat. I believe that I read that in a composting book I checked out from the library, can't remember the title. Even on the label of the weed control products, it states how long it will be effective for. Most all weed killer (weed b gone and such) have to be applied directly to the leaves to work, so they're not really a concern. The pre-emergent is what I would look out for. Even then after a year in a compost heap I don't think it would hurt.
