Anyone ever or even thinking about testing themselves by hiking into the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in AZ by I-8?

My friend and some of his associates may do it on a weekend and see if they come up against any "Bad Guys", but the mission is just recon only and photo-evidence of Illegal Aliens and Narco badguys.

Anyone?

If your into begging for trouble it seems like a place to check out.

Is it back open to the public or the area they are thinking about going into?

Yikes... I'm all for an adventure, but that sounds ill-advised...

Sounds like it might be fun, on one hand. OTOH, sounds like you could also be flirting w/ disaster.

Carry lots of guns, ammo, 1st aid supplies, food , water, and a good lawyers phone #.  Renting a backhoe is optional but recommended.  It makes digging........fighting holes, yeh that's it, fighting holes much easier and quicker.  You may want to dig a few defiladed vehicle positions and tank traps as well.  Yah never know.

P.S. Actually knowing how to use the crap you bring beforehand will help a whole bunch.  Especially the 1st aid stuff.

Didn't some nazi militia announce their intention to start patrolling that area?

Honestly, I'm of two minds.

On the one hand, it's Sovereign U.S. territory that appears to have been illegally ceded by the federal government.  SOME damned body should be down there defending/reclaiming it!

On the other hand, fighting a war on your own hook just for giggles, only to risk prosecution by that same derelict federal government for your troubles seems a bit insane.

And don't kid yourself about recon v combat.  Anybody goes down there with a camera expecting things not to go violent is fooling themselves.  Those contrabandistas will light you up in half a heartbeat and never feel an instant's remorse (unless the bullets or blood ruin some valuable stuff you may have on you).  You go into an area they consider under their control, you'd better be prepared to defend yourself with deadly force and lots of it.

Do you have an artillery battery as support?  I wouldn't head down there unless I knew I had some howitzers to save me.

I guarantee the folks who have "Taken Over" that area will be armed well and I don't mean just an AR and pistol.  We're talking about heavy machine guns, grenades, rocket launchers, etc.  Some of them have been in OUR infantry units.  Even though I have had some of that same training, without proper support, I don't think I would wanna flirt that close with that level of danger.  If you guys are serious, arm well and have a good lawyer on speed dial.  You have got a lit bigger balls than I do.

Check with Ranch Rescue and the Minutemen before to find out what sort of legal costs you will incur defending your actions.

Seriously, if you see any "action" you could end up in a heap of trouble, even if you handle it well at the time.  I'd check into who the sheriff and prosecutor are and see what they are likely to do.

Otherwise, desert survival is always fun.

If you don't know what you are doing you could get yourself in some serious trouble. The people toting drugs though the desert are not to be played with. They take that shit serious and killing people is just part of the job. You go in there and get discovered and you could end up dead. Go in there and get into a situation where you hurt someone in self defense and you will have a lot of explaining, to the Feds or Local LE, as to what you were doing there in the first place. I think it is ill advised and just a bad situation waiting to happen. If you want to test yourself go into a more suitable area of the desert or woods.

Sounds like a great place for ghillie suits and some looooong range rifles with suppressors.  Screw AR's and armor.

PVS-14's and some good night camo will probably get you more action  than you want...

I-8 and BANWR are nowhere near each other.  Perhaps they should learn map-reading skills first.
