I knee jerked and ordered two as I need some sort of lantern anyway.

<$28 delivered for two, so hopefully worth it.

More when I get them.

Did you fuckers already buy them all up? I've tried to order some off the link and it won't let me... Takes me to an empty basket when I try and buy some.

I got the same message so I called and talked to Sharon and she said there still are a few of the black and gold ones left and after they run out they are changing to blue and gold. I ordered 3 over the phone. The bottom of the web site shows the hours and phone number,

Jim

Not for nothing......you're only save a dollar or two and you're getting the smaller lantern.  If you really desire another color go to the WT Kirkman site and order what you want., it's a Dietz 76 original you're looking for.

If you want my opinion, get the larger sized lamps that take the 7/8" wick.  They give more light.  I have one 5/8" wick and I'm burning deordorized K1 in it and it's not all that bright.   The other night I was using my large no2 kirkman champion as additional light AND HEAT in my garage while I was skinning a deer.  Where I was I had electric light only on one side of the deer and the lantern filled the gap nicely.  I think the 5/8" or 1/2" wicked lanterns are fine for mood lighting or just enough light to walk around the house.

Only reason I go with the kirkman brand is they'r galvanized.  Looking at them I swear they're off the dietz dies in China.

So while admittedly 2x as much as the sale item, SteelonSteels' advice about 7/8" wick makes sense to me.  What do you guys think of the WT Kirkman #2 as an alternative?  What would you get? (a quick search didn't turn up any FAQs).

Of course, the next question is around how to store lamp oil .

The WT Kirkman are also nice about 2 year ago I bought the one you posted with a warming plate and also a Dietz Jupiter both are great bight last a long time on one fill up . The WT Kirkman your looking at is brighter and last longer on one fill up then the Dietz Hurricane I have posted. The Hurricane are great if your looking for something cheap and want to buy a lot of them or have a few hanging around.

I bought one from Cabelas last year. It works fine but do not adjust the wick unless you absolutely have to. The internal parts are junk and will strip out easy. LIGHT IT AND LEAVE IT.

By the way I did order two. I can't pass at that price.

Thanks OP for putting the link up.

I agree, sorry I found this a bit late...

$5 off is nice but I like the Air Pilot light better.  It has the 7/8 wick and with it's 31oz tank (compared to 8oz) it burns upto 27hours (compard to 11hrs) and it certainly gives off more light.

See:  http://image.lehmans.com/lehmans/Images/pdf/dietz_chart.pdf

Nothing wrong with having extra lanterns around one way or the other and at about $10 you can abuse them and not feal bad but for SHTF I suggest considering adding a couple of the original's big brother.

JMHOs after playing with both for a year or two now.

The kirkman #2's are about $24 and are galvanized and the colored ones are paint over the galvanization.

the Dietz are just paint over steel and run about $15-20 depending on the model for the larger lanterns with the 7/8" wicks.    I think the Dietz also have a lighter globe which probably is brighter in use than the heavier coke bottle weight kirkman globes.  I just wanted the galv because I figured these would just be sitting around until needed and likely wouldn't get any preventative maintenance.  I have read that moisture accumulates in the tank from normal atmospheric moisture and then settles under the K1 and rusts the bottom.   I have no experience with this problem but for a few bucks more I skipped or postponed the problem.

I don't know why but I was just thinking about the lantern use in the rambo movie....   or I should say lack of use,  when he's in the mine the genious John Rambo makes a torch out of his knife and part of his rag poncho and dumps fuel on it with kero out of an old lantern hanging on the side of the mine.  WTF, why not just light the damn lantern with his everpresent zippo?

Great deal.  I got the Air pilot one in October.  Bought kerosene at Walmart.  Burns well, once I figured out the correct adjustment.  I got it for my Halloween graveyard and to serve as extra light at camp and in case of an emergency.   The AP is big - a couple of these would travel better.
