Good properly compressed audio can get you 3 - 6db as compared to very poor settings. That's potentially as much gain as the equivalent of going from 100 watts to 400 watts.

6 check-ins on 40 meters.
18 check-ins on 80 meters.

Thanks guys, for your participation!

I'll mention again. If you can't get through with SSB Phone, try CW. You can program CW text memories in many modern radios. Set memory 1 as your call sign and memory 2 for my signal report. Just your call and signal report is sufficient enough for a CW check-in. CW can get through much better than SSB Phone.

Hey FUCK YOU! I'm old and decripit but not THAT old and decripit. Stairs my ass. I still routinely go up and down ladders.

ETA I picked up some new underwear and when asked what brand I wanted I said 'Fruit of the Loom'. I did not say 'Depends'!

I am NOT Joe Biden's stand-in!

That's exactly what a Biden stand-in would say.

He is going to want to take us out back next after he deals with corn pop.

That’s ok Pic, if I was forced to hang around Democrats I would be drinking bourbon out of a tall water glass too.

Ladder climbing, yep that’s what they call it in D.C., good old ladder climbing.

Will be in the shack at around 7:40 pm.

Y'all think 200 watts from my FTDX101MP will be enough or should I use the amp?

I think you should have the amp ready, just in case.

Freq is right in the middle of some really bad noise.  MO station comes through it really well though.  NCS comes and goes.

Strong signal on 7.285. I thought Andrei's voice sounded more natural (that's a good thing) than it usually does.

You'll like it!  Kenny has been very conservative with his delivery estimates, usually beating the ETA by a month or more.

Yes, but build is being generous.  It only took about 4 hours to assemble it, all the hard work was already completed.

I saw a video on it. The parts that worry me are soldering the 259(?) jacks on the back, and post-build calibration.

Soldering is easy. I made the initial deposit on one over last weekend. I should see it in a couple months. I will do a build thread start to finish with all the pertinent info.

That would be totally awesome! I have soldered wires together and that's about it. My soldering irons may not be good enough, either. An expensive project like this should be done with the proper tools.

My frustration was using old free mystery solder.   Once I broke down and bought real fine diameter solder things came much easier.

certainly not a master at it but soldering connectors on coax is a place to start.
