Hi. I have been wondering for a long time just how light someone could get a stock ar15 without going to carbon fiber. Its not that I have anything against carbon fiber its just been an idea for a long time.
I have been reviewing a few firearms on your website trying to figure out just how light I could get an ar15.
My two candidates for a base rifle are the superlightweight with stubby stock and the modular carbine.
I first thought about taking an A3 superlight (preferably with a milled front sight base if possible) and adding an ace stubby skeleton stock to lighten the load further.
Then came along the modular carbine and it got me thinking. Which would be easier/cheaper/lighter?
a modular carbine with a 16" superlight in place of the standard fluted barrel with a stubby ace in place of the full length ace OR
an A3 16" superlight (milled front sight base please) with a stubby ace?
then of course after the base rifle is found there is the issue of which handguard is the absolute lightest right down to the last gram.
this is gonna be a challenge
