Continental does not and never has made lower receivers for Bushmaster Firearms. We have used them for upper receivers, during very busy times, to meet unplanned customer demand. However, all uppers are produced strictly to Bushmaster specifications. We have made it a practice to maintain additional sources for selected items, so that we can best service our customers in times of peak demand. There is no functional difference between any upper receiver sold by Bushmaster.
Pricing: It is our understanding that special pricing was given by the Engineer Ed, because he was a friend of the email writer "RussB". We produce items that meet or exceed government specifications and will not "cheapen" them up. After the machining of an upper receiver we continue to process them following MIL specifications for Bead Blast, Hard Coat Anodize, Seal Coat, and Lube (we consider our lubrication of the upper receiver as an "exceeds" government specifications, even though we process them to a MIL Spec that was written for this method of lubrication).
Bushmaster does not have a .308 in production. We do, on a periodic basis investigate possible new products: i.e. through the acquisition of the assets of the former Professional Ordnance, we have added the .22 caliber Carbon 15 Rifle and Pistol. We will always investigate new products that are of interest to our loyal customer base. However, in introducing a new product we would never sacrifice our high quality standards, or our core business (which is the production of .223 caliber based products and related items).
Sincerely, Bushmaster Firearms, Inc.
