Please, Please, Please make an M-Lok rail for the Sig 516 rifle!
Their quad is heavy and short with the gas block eating up space. Only Lancer makes an aftermarket hand guard now, and it is Carbon Fiber. |

While your at it make a version for the Sig 716 as well!
Yes. Please make these. For both 516 and 716.

F$$K CANCER!!! RIP Jeff Reed.
Also, talked to SIG at SHOT, they said they weren't focusing on continued development of accessories for the 516/716

This gets posted in here every once in a while. I pray that at some point they listen. I think they would sell quite a few because I think there are quite a few people that have these rifles and they aren't cheap so I think we that have them would be willing to lay out a few bucks to make a somewhat expensive rifle 100000% nicer.
I am in for one of each (516 & 716) if they ever make them. |
I'd be willing to buy 15, just to sell them as people need them.
There are a lot out there and all of them need a refresh of a rail system |
Dum Spiro, Spero
The rifle is so good but the OEM rail that came with it is so bad. It just takes away from what otherwise is such a great rifle. A decent rail would make this thing soooooo much better.
Still Waiting.
Looks like Lancer is updating their rails to be M-LOK. Still wish they were aluminum vs Carbon |

Too late. I broke down and bought a Lance for my 516. Probably will get one for my 716 too eventually. But if MI comes out with something better I probably would get that too, but I'm not holding my breath.
MI, how many order commitments would you all need to do this?
Dum Spiro, Spero
Hell, I'd be down as well. My 516 SBR is pretty front heavy.

In for a 716.

Would buy one as well.

I would be in for one if it has 1913 top rail in front of the gas block as well

@Midwest_Ind,
If you make it they will come. I would definitely get one from you guys. Not sure if you know, but over the last 12-18 months Sig has been selling their 516 uppers at a great price on sale. They sell out of the batch they list within 6 hours or so each time if you follow the reddit gun deals. So a lot of new owners are entering the fold plus a lot of the old ones. All of whom have been waiting for someone in the industry to step up and make an aluminum MLOK rail. It shouldn't be too hard to take an existing MLOK rail of yours that has the correct ID to clear the gas block and all the piston parts and make a cutout for the gas block. Any chance you guys would be willing to do this? |
I harass them every year at SHOT for this.
I will send them my upper to work off of. |
Dum Spiro, Spero
I have a 516 here . I will look at it but will give you zero time frame on when we would start it since we are swamped with orders.
thanks Troy MI |

Has the 516 been discontinued?
We are not seeing them at distributors. Troy Midwest |

Troy,
I'm not aware of that, but as one other poster stated, Sig has repeatedly dropped tons of 516 uppers in recent months. There is certainly a growing market even if the platform is no longer supported. The channel size needed for the pistol system is ~15/32 (OEM handguards) |
Dum Spiro, Spero
I have a design finished . I am going to rapid prototype one and see what we think before we make chips. like I told you all its going to be a few months before we even can get these into a machine .
thanks Troy MI |

A common comment is how we all wish that someone would make a slimmer profile MLOK rail for it. I think MI could corner the market and do well. Originally Posted By Midwest_Ind:

Pete/Troy, that looks very sharp. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I can definitely wait until summer time for that. Would be worth it. |

Just wondering at the 1:30, 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30 spots, is there an advantage going with the circle cuts vs. oval or even more MLOK slots at those locations from a structural or improved airflow benefit?

View Quote Holes offer less weight and look like our family of two piece free float hand guards . If we had Mlok on seven sides the Mag Pul type panels would not have fit as the flats would have been to wide . There were also other factors like hardware and sling swivel pockets to consider. This hand guard design will make installation extremely simple and can be put back to stock with zero modifications to the rifle .This design also uses existing material and that made the design more attractive from a ease of production standpoint . I like it but I need longer. That is almost the same size as the OEM quad rail. What I would buy would be one that goes 15" or so so it looks like all the other handguards out there. That's what I really hate about mine. If you make a longer one I would definitely commit to buying one.

I just wanted to say thank you for doing this. I am a long time reader of this forum but have never made an account until now. I am super pumped about this and decided to make an account just to say thanks. I purchased a 14.5" Upper from sig during one of the several contract overrun sales they have had over the last few years. The 516 is a great platform but the handguard made me avoid it whenever I reached into the safe. If you scour the corners of the internet reading about the 516 this same complaint can be found thousands and thousands of times. With the only other option being the lancer handguard (which a lot of people including myself don't care for) I am positive this will be a big hit. I am looking forward to this and will be watching for the day it goes up for sale. Again THANK YOU.

I mean I have fired my 516 a lot and I never adjusted the piston ever. The only time I touch the piston is when I am cleaning it, and if the bottom portion of the handguard slipped off I would remove it to clean the piston anyway. I think it could be done and people would love it. |
