Can we get a complete list of both the old and new barrel codes?
Thanks. |

Applicable "codes" for 223 barrels:
Old Codes: Three characters side by side over the chamber. First Character: N or W...N for NATO chamber or W for Wylde Second Character: 8 or 9...8 for 1:8 twist and 9 for 1:9 twist. Third Character: A, S, or C...A for moly (chrome -moly Alloy), S for Stainless, and C for Chrome-lined alloy. Current Codes: The actual base part number from our parts system/catalog, located over the chamber. These are the most common. Unless indicated otherwise, all stainless barrels are 1:8 twist and all moly barrels (chrome-lined or not)are 1:9. All 16" moly barrels have a NATO chamber, while the 20" moly and all stainless barrels have a Wylde chamber. 200 Moly CAR 200CL Chrome-lined CAR 202 Moly R4 204 Chrome-lined R4 205 Chrome-lined light-weight R4, 1:7 206 Stainless CAR-currently discontinued 208 16" Stainless varmint 209 Moly 7" Pistol; 210 Moly Mid 212 Chrome-lined Mid 213 Moly light-weight Mid-currently discontinued 213CL Chrome-lined light-weight Mid 215 Stainless Mid 218 18" Stainless varmint 219 Chrome-lined light-weight R4, 1:9 220 Moly Std (rifle) 221 Chrome-lined Std (rifle) 222 Stainless NM(rifle) 223 Stainless NM (rifle), unthreaded 225 Moly 10.5" 225CL Chrome-lined 10.5" 226 20" Stainless varmint 228 24" Stainless varmint (1:8) 229 24" Stainless varmint (1:12) 232 Moly light-weight CAR 232CL Chrome-lined light-weight CAR YOU MAY SEE SOME MARKINGS AFTER THE NUMBERS...THE S IS FOR STAINLESS AND THE C IS FOR CHROME-LINED...PRIMARILY TO HELP PEOPLE BOTH IN-HOUSE AND OUT TO KNOW AT A GLANCE WITHOUT HAVING TO REFER TO A CATALOG. Additional letters are inspection marks. All barels receive a basic inspection. and some receive an additional inspection, or even two or three...and will be marked accordingly if they have been further inspected. Steve/RRA Edited 07-07-06 to include chrome-lined 20" rifle bbl (AR0221). Edited 01-04-07 to include chrome-lined lightweight R4 bbls (AR0205 and AR0219). Edited 01-30-08 to include the 7 inch (209), 10.5" (225) and light-weight CARs and Mids (232 and 213) Edited 09-26-11 to include some information and fix a couple of entries |

If you have a strong light you may be able to shine it in and see it. My Mid length number (212) is 1/2" in front of the delta ring and under the gas tube.

Will other calibered barrels be sold and listed here? I am thinking of the 458socom and 6.8SPC or 6.5grendel.

No 6.8s or 458s initially. No plan whatsoever for Grendels.

I bought an upper and lower at a gunshow from an proclaimed RRA dealer. The barrel has 5.56 Nato 1-9 on the top of the barrel near the flash supressor. It has no other markings anywhre on it of any kind. The only mark on the upper at all is a keyhole shaped mark to the left of the ejection port. Did I get scammed? The barrel is chrome lined and looks to be milspec. The lower is marked with the RRA emblem and serial number. What gives? That barrel is an R4 type with heavy tip and grenade/bayonet lug.
Not an RRA barrel, and unless it is a very old upper receiver (we've been laser engraving RRA on unbuilt uppers and the RRA logo on complete upper halves and rifles) for about three years) it isn't one of ours, either. If you want to e-mail me withthe serial number, I can tell you how the lower left the factory.

The differentiated markings (complete upper half/rifle upper half versus stripped uppers) has helped to weed out some of the home/shop-builders who were trying to pass their builds off as factory rifles. We saw it in more than one case, which helped prompt the engraving as a means of maintaining our product's reputation and value.

Hmm. I'll have to go check now...

On your Entry Tactical uppers, How can one tell the 1:7 chrome lightweight from the 1:9 chrome lightweight?
Looking for the 205 or 219 (see the first post in this thread) would be the easiest way.
If it's a complete rifle, I could also look it up by serial number and be able to see how it left the factory. Steve/RRA |
Thanks Steve. For some reason, I didn't see them earlier.

I bought this rifle at a gunshow today the barrel code is 200-D. What exactly does that mean?
It doesn't contain any literature explaining different features in the rifle either. The SN# is CM141073 |
Nick,
That's just an AR0200 (200) with an inspection marking. That serial number left here as a CAR A4 rifle...16" moly barrel, flat top upper, etc.... Steve/RRA |
212 C-C = 16" chrome lined, is it 5.56x45, .223 Rem, or .223 Wylde? Thanks.

ME2112:
Nato chamber. Steve/RRA |

I bought a M4 kit from SHERLUK Mark, and the barrel was marked over the chamber" N9C " does that make it a RRA barrel ,and yes it was chrome lined chamber/bore ? Thanks, yls |
Very old barrel, but yes, one of our codes. Please see the barrel listing at the top of the first page.

Picked up a barrel from pk firearms wednesday has barrel marking 227C supposed to be Rock River 20" HBAR 1-7 twist chrome lined .Not on your list.Is it one of yours?
Yes.
Limited run we did for a specific customer. We let the overruns out to a couple of dealers. Steve/RRA |
200-R is just an AR0200. The R is an inspector''s code.
The 200s (no CL) are regular chrome moly barrels. Steve/RRA |

Just received two new very nice looking RRA SS Mid uppers. They were ordered at the same time. One is marked 215 S-M, the other 215 S-, no M. All else seem to be the same. Which one should I give to my friend and which one should I keep.

Same bbl...the one just has an extra inspection stamp. They're all inspected with one set of criteria, and from batches, some barrels are pulled for additional checks.

232 C-M
Lightweight CAR barrel 1/9 chrome lined 16". Just got my upper I ordered and didn't see this particular stamp on the list. Called RRA to confirm it was chrome lined. |
Any chance Rock River will start marking the barrels on the top in front of the sight like other NATO barrels?
Chance of it.

Any chance of posting barrel weights?
I'm most interested in how much weight savings there is between the 16 Inch Mid-Length and the same 'Lightweight' barrel. (AR0212ASY CHROME LINED Chrome Moly Barrel Assembly, 16 Inch Mid-Length AR0213CLASY Lightweight CHROME LINED Chrome Moly Barrel Assembly, 16 Inch Mid-Length) As an aside: Which barrel does the Elite Comp use and what does it weigh in comparison? |
The 16" lightweight barrels weight 6-8 ounces less than their HBAR counterparts. Gwtting weights for bbls has been on my todo list for quite a while, but hasn't reached the top (or close to it, unfortunately) yet.

Just picked up a 14.5" 1:7 R4 lightweight barrel marked "197 C-T"
Is this an overrun? Who were these made for? Thanks. |

We have all sorts of barrel sthat aren't "normally" available (generally due to limitted quantity runs), and as such aren't listed in the first post.
AR0197 is a lightweight chrome-lined 1:7 with an R4 profiled front end that is generally not available to the consumer market. Steve/RRA |
The letters C M are the only markings I can see on the chamber under the hand guards of the 16" lightweight upper I received recently from Legal Transfers.
My understanding is I purchased chrome lined, 1/7" twist rate- it's what Pete had in stock and met my needs- but want to be sure the barrel code indicates same and I did not see these letters on the list. Appreciate any help in understanding. |
Could you update the list to show what "M" stands for?
I have a barrel coming to me, and its' marked 213 C-M. I think it's chromelined midlength light wt profile. but it should've been marked 213 C-L. So what does "M" stand for? Medium weight? Thx |
The C is for chrome-lined. Anything after that is an inspector's mark. All barrels are inspected for the same criteria. Some barrels are further inspected for different criteria (beyond the basic checks). These get an inspector's mark (or even two or more if they are picked for another of the secondary inspections).

Steve, I bought a RRA Upper last week from PK Firearms. I got it today!! Do manufactures usually but there name on the upper. I don't see a RRA Stamp on the flat top? I'm new so sorry if this is a dumb question. How would anyone know who manufactured it if it's not labeled or marked? Thanks Toby |
No, uppers are not usually marked with the manufacturer's name.
That said, ours are normally laser etched on the top of the upper...either our logo (including name) on the flat over the charging handle (for complete upper halves and rifles) or just an "RRA" on the forward most flat on the rail for stripped uppers. Steve/RRA |
what about 213W, or maybe M, but i think it was a W.
Mine just has 200 no other marking. Why is there no inspector mark??? Also the RRA logo is on the removeable carry handle should there be one on the reciver it self? THANKS A BUNCH
