My understanding is that this flash hider requires a smooth surfaced thread protector to function properly.

If this is in fact accurate, I have two questions.

Smooth surfaced thread protectors appear to be extraordinarily difficult to find. Any idea where this item can be located?

Given that this style of thread protector is important to this particular flash hider, why doesn't AAC either include it with this flash hider or at least make one available for purchase separately?

I could be mistaken regarding some of the above, so Im looking for clarification and education. Thanks.

The knurled thread protector is typically either
a) too large to fit in the piston bore, or
b) just large enough to get ham-fistedly installed in the piston and never come out.

Please answer the question the OP posted.

Your instructions show a graphic with 3 pictograms. One without a thread protector ("X"ed out), one with a knurled thread protector (also "X"ed out), and one with a smooth thread protector (not "X"ed out).

Since almost every MP5 or variant I've seen that has a threaded 3-lug barrel has a knurled thread protector except for issue Navy weapons, we're trying to find a source for the part your company has called out in its specs.

FYI, my MP5 3-lug barrel with a knurled thread protector fits the piston bore just perfectly. Easy on, easy off, even for us ham-fisted folks.

Sorry for the late response, we do not know of a aftermarket vendor for the thread protector. The part was designed for issue weapons and sometimes the aftermarket is late to the game supplying consumers. If we find a aftermarket part that will work we will let you know.

Given they were designed for issue weapons, it would stand to reason they would also need smooth thread protectors per AAC specs. Wonder how those folks are getting that accomplished? Civilian weapons and issue weapons are frequently indistinguishable.....and share identical specs.

Same (or very similar)  guns, same requirements.

I did find one other silencer company that has a listing for MP5 thread protectors.   Both 1/2 28 and 1/2 36.  Unfortunately out of stock.

Was it Gemtech?

There's a guy on eBay that offers smooth thread protectors. I ordered one.

I'll post results on how it works out when Imget it.

Any plans to make one yourself? Looks like a fairly easy part to design and make plus it looks like it will be an in-demand product.

No luck with the eBay thread protector. I received it and it's a bust.

The part is not long enough to cover the antire threaded portion of a standard 3-lug threaded barrel.

Also, the claimed pitch does not correctly match the barrel's threading and it will not screw onto the barrel.

So, this one goes into the "Box of Misfit Toys" and the search continues for the right part.

Here's hoping that if AAC won't make a part to match their spec'ed item, some other manufacturer will.

Somebody had to make them at some point because I've seen 'em on Navy weapons.

Until,then, I'm going to shoot my SP5K with the knurled thread protector and see how it goes with a semi-auto.
