Significant habitual corneal damage and the resulting scarring has effected my perception of bright dots significantly enough that I cannot use them to the level of precision that I want to be able to achieve on demand with a rifle. I can still use them just fine inside 100 yards, but that's pretty much relegated them to pistols and other pistol caliber things.
I have come to vastly prefer a bold etched reticle as pretty easily found on LPVOs these days.
For 1-4x through 1-6x I tend to prefer second focal plane reticles, as they tend to be bolder on 1x, and therefore easier to quickly acquire and less illumination dependent than their first focal plane sisters. Of course, I won't discard a good first focal plane reticle, just speaking generally.
I have put myself on the clock repeatedly ever since I first started dabbling seriously with LPVOs back in the 2005 area, and my time differences in multiple target multiple shot multiple position standards have not been negatively effected.
