The Heart of the New ST Elite Mid-Length upper is the FN Cold Hammer Forged barrel.
These Amazing CHF barrels are extremely durable with a 20,000+ round service life. These CHF barrels are turned to ST's New Optimum barrel Profile. This New profile is lighter than government profile but beefier than a lightweight profile, it's an "Optimum" profile. The barrels utilize a Forged F-Marked A2 front sight base which is taper pinned to the barrel (perfectly straight) in the Mid-Length location. The barrels have a .750" gas block seat with a properly sized gas port and the muzzle is threaded perfectly concentric with 1/2x28 threads. These CHF barrels are made to the Mil-Spec for the M249 SAW. The barrel blanks are the correct Certified CMV material and they are also Hard Chrome lined to the M249 SAW Mil-Spec, which is almost twice as thick as the Hard Chrome on a Mil-Spec M4. Each barrel is HPT and MPI. They have Mil-Spec M4 barrel extensions, Mil-Spec Phosphate finish on the outside (under the front sight base as well). These New ST Elite uppers also include a Forged charging handle, Nickel Boron M16 HPT/MPI Bolt Carrier Group, Magpul MOE Mid-Length handguards, Melonited gas tubes, and the New ST-T1 buffer. Only available at AIM Surplus! $629.95 delivered for the first shipment, $649.95 starting in August, preorder link now for the pics

A DD 12" lite rail preinstalled would make it pretty much perfect.

It can be done, but AIM would have to order them that way.
AIM did order more of the GMP uppers, those are in the pipeline. I don't know if they will want to order these in dissipator configurations as well. |

Cant Wait till it gets here.

Like the idea of a low pro gas block instead. How about an option for no hand guard? I read the description. Is that barrel really capable of 1/2 MOA?
Also what is the difference between teh old Buffer (ST-T1) and the buffer offered with this setup? Any advantages of one over the othere???

The T1 is the ideal weight for the gas port diameter I went with. |

ya no handguard as in it comes as it is with no MOE. I could supply my own (since I have an extra one left over) or its one less thing to deal with if say i wanted to do with some other handguard. Just a thought? So then on the buffer. Would there be issues if one used the old T2 instead of the T1 it came with?

The T1 buffer is 3 oz the T2 is 4.3. I will Let you know in a week as I will Probally try it with the T2 since it is in my Lower already (unless Tom Advises against it) |

The accuracy claim sounds great, and I have been VERY impressed with some FN barrels in the past, so I'm in!
The long barrel life sounds incredible as well. I bet those SAW barrels get more abuse than I will give mine. Anyway, I placed my preorder, and now I'll just chomp at the bit until it gets here.

The barrel twist is a 1/7 on there I am guessing? Love the accuracy numbers and high round count service life. |

Are these designed with a small gas port to work best with 5.56mm? Could there be any problems running weaker .223 (e.g., Wolf, etc.) through these? Also, do you have plans for any other configurations utilizing FN barrels (besides the 14.5" mentioned on p.1)? |

I drilled the gas ports on the CHF barrels just a hair smaller than I usually do allowing them to operate with less buffer weight (reciprocating mass). They run all types of ammo without issue and they ARE smooth! We plan to offer SAR rail and BAR rail configurations in the future. |

If I wanted a 14.5 elite w/ SAR rail and pinned A2, will that come through AIM? Or could I call Spikes direct for that. Heck, I'll take it with the moe and order a SAR separately if need be.
I see no 14.5 uppers on the Spikes website. I've got my Spikes billet lower complete and do believe I have made up my mind on what upper to go with. |
|
|
|
|
Spikes no longer offers Barrels individually.
Spikes also has many configurations not listed on the site. you want it they can build it you just have to be patient. I myslef have a 13.2 SAR just sold a 12 Now I wish I kept it. Either would like to install it on my 14.5 middy or the 16 CHF upper when it comes. |
|
|
|
|
Whoever came up with this configuration ought to get a raise!
