First off, I fully understand Magpul is a firearms accessories business. However, they excel in that and excel in nearly every product they release so I was very tempted to give their sunglasses a try.
I picked these up from Midway USA 3 weeks ago as I was in dire need of a new pair of polarized glasses and didn't really want to spend $250+ on the brands I usually go to. Upon first opening the package the glasses were well packed and come with a nifty box, that I'm sure will get used for spare change or 22lr ammo. The glasses are very flexible and lightweight, which I love. The rubber ear and nose pieces grip well and the glasses stay put wvwn when hot and sweaty. Overall they feel well made for the price and I had nothing to complain about from the start. Here's where they fall short, lenses. I know these are $100 glasses so I wasn't expecting top quality glass but the plastic lenses on the Magpul's scratches very very easy, more so than other brands in the same price range. The clarity is fine but I have several scratches already and while they ahve been . I wear these every day in the car and at work, so while they get used a lot, they aren't abused and usually stay in a padded compartment in my truck or on my desk.
I would gladly pay $50-$75 more for a version of these with better quality, scratch resistant lenses, as I love the look and design of the Explorers. However, at the current level of quality, I suspect I'll be replacing these in 6-12 months and looking for something different with tougher lenses.
