OP, I don't see why that sight channel would hurt. That said, my 719s are in a Seekins base.
Why I mention the sight channel, is that when looking for LaRue QD rings and a scope mount for my M1A, I called LaRue to get recommendations.
LaRue told me I had "limited options" because most M1A mounts had a "sight channel". The sight channel is what they described and sent me a picture of as an example, showing the lands* not fully extending from side-to-side, but "split" by another cutout "slot", longitudinally, they called a "sight channel.
NO sight channel (Standard/per spec)
LaRue went on to explain that their QD rings have a small bar (recoil lug ?) underneath (See "B" below) that fits into the base's groove, but this bar is centered and does not extend the full width of the rail.
Because the bar of the rings pretty much lines up with the cut-out slot (sight channel) of the scope base, and their QD rings rely somewhat on the bar to help hold the ring in place, rather than the "clamping force" from the QD lever or bolt, their rings would not work or not work well, with bases of this type.
So before purchasing a scope base for an R700 platform, I'm asking this "compatibility" question.
* NOTE: I'm not sure what the "raised" portions are called on the picatiney rail ,
but I believe the slots are called "grooves", so analogous to a barrel I'm
calling the raised parts "lands", until someone can give me a name for
