I ordered the 16" Expedition kit from J&T this week. After ordering, I spoke to Gary about a few things and was told the kit comes with Colt fire control parts (trigger, hammer, disconnector, etc.) for the lower receiver. I have every intention to buy a stripped Rock River lower to complete this kit. In Duncan Long's book Build Your Own AR 15, he states "That means you must avoid Colt AR-15 parts if you're assembling a gun around another company's lower receiver. Otherwise, unless you have pre-ban Colt parts, the trigger group isn't going to fit your receiver unless you got to a lot of work re-drilling holes and other extensive modifications.
Now I certainly don't expect J&T would have known whose lower I intended to use and I don't think that they would normally send pre-ban Colt fire control parts with the kits. I have no intention of doing any drilling/modification on my first self-built first weapon.
Gary is off to the Shot Show and I couldn't reach him by phone today after reading this book so I just thought I'd hang this question out here to see if anyone might have insight to this dilemma. I suppose I could just ask them to exchange the fire control parts for RRA parts.
Not meant to flame J&T or Colt If anyone is at fault here, it's me as usual but I can correct this mistake with another $55.
