I have my ECC at the gunsmith. A local guy I trust a lot. Very reputable but he might be dead wrong here and I'd like to know before he alters my factory barrel. I gave him an AAC brake to install so I can run my 762SDN-6. He called me and said that he has to cut and re-crown my barrel because KAC times the brake off of the crown. What is he talking about? Tell him to stop?
EDIT: He didn't 'cut' the barrel. He wants to take a couple thousandths off to time it correctly rather than stacking a bunch of shims. EDIT 2: Well, he took those thousandths off. re-crowned with the 11° crown. Just awesome ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I may now send it to KAC to unfuck it. Wow, and this is ahead of my rifle shoot in TX!!! FUCK |

I’d use shims, wouldn’t want my barrel touched.

KAC 7.62 threads don't have a shoulder. They time against the crown which is large. Use the shims that's what they are there for.

ON the SR25's they do time the muzzle devices off the crown because the barrel has virtually no shoulder I was really bewildered the first time I pulled off a QDC flash hider to install a MAMS. I'm curious to see how this turns out keep us posted and best of luck brother I know the sickening feeling when someone goofs something up

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that AAC made several versions of their 7.62 brake, including one specifically for KAC rifles. He shouldn't need to cut anything.
Also, can a gunsmith re-crown a chrome-lined barrel without screwing up the lining? |

I may send it back to KAC to fix anything that is fucked. Like flaking CL or something. |

I'd be furious.

He might get hit with a pretty decent bill from us for repair. Naturally, if it's just putting the muzzle device on correctly, it won't be bad. |

What did the smith say about this?
Did he bill you even though you did not request or authorize the modification? |
