For the record, I love Daniel Defense rifles. I bought a DDM4 MK12, got a MK18 upper in addition (sbr), now have a DDM4V5 also. My later guns, I hope are still Daniel Defense. My new DDM4V5 has this new plastic dust cover though. I hope Daniel Defense isn't making decisions simply based on cutting costs. I buy the rifles for their extra quality and workmanship. I preferred the old look, and it sucks to put real money into a gun doubting it's changes.
I called in inquiring and was told it was because of how metal could bend and block the bolt carrier.
Is a plastic dust cover actually superior to steel? They said it weighed less too, but it's a dust cover...I'm about to change the thing out. I hope it was a wise choice and not the start of cost cutting measures that undermine the legacy of the Daniel Defense brand...
