Got my new 16" shorty on Sept 9. (Was on the way to the range to fire it for the first time on 9-11 when the first plane hit, but that's another story).
Put 600 rounds through it over the next several months. A few (40-60) at a time, and carefully cleaning between every range session. Had a few initial problems, but within a few range sessions, everything worked out great.
I have always heard that AR's were sensitive, and needed constant care and attention, plus meticulous cleaning. So......I have embarked on a test to see how long I can go without cleaning before I have a failure of any kind. I just want to see for myself just how frail these AR's really are.
Currently, I am taking the Shorty with me every week to the pistol match, and putting 20-40 rounds through it after the match. This is outdoors, in a dirty, dusty environment. Then it is put away without cleaning. So far, it's been 8 weeks, and no problems. Some weeks has been wolf, some PMC, some 3131A.
Wondering how long I can go before the first failure.
