To the fine folks at Bushmaster, I'd like to ask this question. Answer it to whatever level you think is appropriate.
What components does Bushmaster actually make, and what components are made by contractors for you? Referring to major components, IE bolts, bolt carriers, uppers, lowers, barrels, and so on. I expect you contract out small parts, anyway.
I'm curious, that's all.
Oh...I recently called Bushmaster and requested a replacement HBAR front sight assembly so I could fit it to a nearly new condition Bushmaster National Match heavy barrel I picked up for half a song. I was told that this item couldn't be sold to me.
I want to say I have a bit of a problem with that. Between me and my gunsmith, (we're both qualified machinists, BTW) we have access to at least two full machine shops with over a million dollar's worth of equipment to use, and either of us are capable of putting the new sight base on an existing barrel, and aligning the taper pin holes exactly to the existing barrel holes.
We can handle it, in other words.
I think that if I request a part that needs to be gunsmithed and fitted, regardless of what it might be, that you sell it to me with no argument. I can and will take full responsibility for my workmanship and results.
I ended up getting the front sight assembly from Fulton Armory. They were quite helpful and deserve an attaboy from firstname.lastname@example.org
