The left side mag release isn't critical to the rifle, if the rifles are test fired at the factory I could see how it would be missed. I personally never use the mag release on that side anyway.
I talked to Jack as he was someone I had met from the other forum and it was taken care of.
They had sent me replacement parts very quickly but when I went to fire it is when I noticed the other problems.
The other lower that was tight on USGI mags is gone. I only have a picture of the serial number as I had to send it to them along with proof of purchase date. The last 4 on that lower was 1586. The new one is 1851.
Oh, the ones without the QD sockets.
So, it did have a end plate, but just not the QD endplate on the later/current models.
I've seen those transitional Mod1 rifles without the QD endplate or the sockets on the receiver, and with just the standard AR15 end plate.
It is still a surprise to hear a rifle passing QC without a mag release lever though... that is just not right.
Okay... so now the new one will drop free with USGI, but still struggles a bit with PMAG...
As I mentioned above, I did have some Gen2 PMAG with earlier batch number that won't drop free in my Mod1 lower, but the later production number Gen2 will easily drop free.
I guess it is just what it is... combination of magazine batches, and their tolerances, with KAC lower's tolerances causing non-drop free mags.
I've seen this with other brands as well, so it is not uncommon.
